We’ve been going electric with tons of trucks and SUVs like the Kia EV6, and it’s been beneficial to experience various options. Now we can see which vehicles are missing certain features and which models genuinely deliver. But we’re still shocked over what the 2022 Kia EV6 is missing.

The 2022 Kia EV6 doesn’t include a charging cable

We are totally surprised that the 2022 Kia EV6 doesn’t come with a charging cable. This presented a challenge when we tried charging it at home. We found the charging port and looked all over for the cord.

Upon searching the front trunk or frunk, trunk area, cubbies, and trays, we wondered if our model was delivered without the cord. But then we checked the manual and multiple sites to discover that you must purchase the cable separately.

According to Kelley Blue Book, you have to purchase the cable to charge your vehicle at home. Level 1 or Level 2 charging cables cost between $300 to $600. They may be available through dealerships at a later date.

But on a positive note, the Kia EV6 features 1,000 kWh of free charging at Electrify America over a three-year period. This could cover up to 4,000 miles of range.

How quickly does the 2022 EV6 charge?

You can charge your 2022 Kia EV6 in about 36 hours with the use of a Level 1 charger or 120-volt outlet at home. This method replenishes about nine miles of range per hour, which is faster than the average EV charging rate.

With a Level 2 charger or a 240-volt outlet, the battery can be recharged from 10 to 100 percent in roughly seven hours. You can have a Level 2 charger installed at your home by a licensed electrician. Level 2 chargers cost about $1,300 with labor included.

Speed things up by using a DC Fast Charging or Level 3 charging station. This method can add about 218 miles or range in 20 minutes. DC fast charging stations can add about 70 miles of range in five minutes too.

We are going straight to the fast charging station to see how quickly we can replenish the battery. However, it’s a little frustrating to take this extra step. We were spoiled by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and its standard cable.

How much range does the Kia EV6 have?

The 2022 Kia EV6 has an EPA-estimated range of 232 miles with the standard battery. You can opt for the long-range battery for an EPA-estimated 310 miles of range. Also, the EV6 GT model only has 206 miles of range.

We’ve found that the range holds steady. Driving during warm afternoons and cold mornings hasn’t seemed to affect its charge. Driving in Eco Mode can save a little juice as it adjusts the torque and throttle response to be slightly slower.

Switching between Normal and Sport modes provides different driving dynamics, but the range doesn’t seem to be affected. Also, we don’t expect to test the Snow mode this week.

Stay tuned for our full Kia EV6 review. We still have more to learn about its pros and cons. Also, you’ve been warned a charging cable isn’t included!
