Driven: The 2022 Mercedes-AMG EQS Is Super Quick, Comfortable, and Classy
What do you get when you take a super luxurious, super-fast all-electric sedan and cram more power into it? You get the 2022 Mercedes-AMG EQS. We drove its less-powerful stablemate, the EQS 450, earlier this year and were blown away by that. As you can imagine, this AMG version has enough to completely knock our socks off. Not only is it super quick, but it’s also very comfortable and uber-classy.
The 2022 Mercedes-AMG EQS is extremely quick
Let’s get this out of the way first; the 2022 Mercedes-AMG EQS is a really fast EV. It’s no Tesla Roadster, but this porky four-door sedan can get up and running quicker than you say “Tesla Model S.” According to Car and Driver’s testing, the AMG EQS can reach 60 mph from a standstill in only three seconds.
That’s amazing, considering this large sedan weighs nearly 6,000 pounds. On the road, the Mercedes-AMG EQS feels every bit as fast as its performance numbers entail. Stab the throttle from a stop and be prepared to be pushed back in your seat, as all 700 lb-ft of torque comes online from the get-go.
That’s the beauty of electric cars; after all, the instantaneous torque is on tap whenever you need it. Want to get into that small break between traffic when getting onto the highway? Step on the throttle, and it’s yours. Want to beat that Prius next to you to make your upcoming left turn? No problem! (Although, you can likely do that with any car).
The Mercedes-AMG EQS super comfortable
Sitting inside the 2022 Mercedes-AMG EQS is a luxurious and high-tech treat. There are soft leather surfaces everywhere, including the armrests and dashboard. The powered seats feel snug but comfortable enough for a long drive, and let’s not forget about the massive Hyperscreen.
If you’re not familiar with it, the Hyperscreen is a large 56-inch display that’s made up of three different screens. There’s a 12.3-inch screen in front of the driver, a 17.7-inch infotainment screen in the middle, and a 12.3-inch screen in front of the passenger. Don’t get too excited; the one in front of the passenger doesn’t play movies, but it does mirror the infotainment functions, so the passenger will have something to keep themselves occupied.
The 2022 Mercedes-AMG EQS is very classy
Take one look at the Mercedes-AMG EQS, and you’ll likely be impressed with its smooth curves and elegant edges. The overall aesthetic of the car is soft and unoffensive. We figured that its rounded shape probably helps with aerodynamics, but whatever the case, the classy design should withstand the test of time.
Mercedes-Benz went the extra mile with this car by paying attention to the details. There are Mercedes etchings in the headlights, and when you turn the car off, the light patterns do a little dance and shine “AMG EQS,” which is very pronounced if you happen to park in front of a wall at night.
Overall, we were even more blown away by the 2022 Mercedes-EQS AMG and everything it had to offer. Its performance, interior quality, comfort, and elegant details make it worth its $152,000 price tag. Yes, you can put that as a down payment on a house if you want to be more responsible with your money. But can a house go from 0 to 60 mph in three seconds? We think not.
