Pickup trucks have evolved over the past 10 years, making it difficult to decide between popular options like the Ford F-150 and Toyota Tundra. But after driving the 2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid and 2022 Toyota Tundra, I have a few key takeaways to help you decide.

2021 Ford F-150 vs. 2022 Toyota Tundra

Just to clarify, I’m not saying the 2021 Ford F-150 is a better truck than the 2022 Toyota Tundra. The Tundra has excellent qualities to brag about. For example, its seats are more comfortable, and it has more driving modes to enjoy. Plus, the rear power window is epic.

But both trucks could meet the different needs of drivers, and the Ford F-150 seems to be better suited as a work truck.

1. The F-150 is more versatile

Based on spending time with both trucks, it seems like the 2021 Ford F-150 has more practical uses than the 2022 Toyota Tundra.

You can fold the rear seats against the wall in both trucks, but the F-150 seems to have more under-seat storage and a flatter surface for storing items. Adjusting the seats is also a bit easier.

Both trucks have power tailgates with extendable steps. The Tundra has one step that folds out from the side, but the F-150 has two steps with a rail to hold on to.

Also, the F-150 has a ruler on the tailgate with wood clamps for measuring and cutting wood. The Tundra has one outlet in the bed, and the F-150 has four, plus the Pro Power onboard generator that can power a campsite.

2. The F-150 has more personal adjustment settings

The 2022 Toyota Tundra has plenty of controls to find the perfect driving or riding position. However, the 2021 Ford F-150 allows you to adjust the height of the peddles. The mirrors and steering wheel seem easier to adjust.

The massive towing mirrors in the Tundra allow you to see what’s behind you, but they create significant blind spots during turns. The F-15 has an impressive lack of blind spots, but both trucks have a 360-degree camera and parking sensors to help you navigate through tight areas.

Also, it’s hard to beat the Ford F-150’s max recline seats. They almost fold completely flat, creating the perfect space for a nap. But the seat massagers can feel a bit lumpy and uncomfortable.

3. The Toyota Tundra could use a tech update

The 2022 Toyota Tundra has a head-up display, digital gauge cluster, and a new 14.0-inch touchscreen. But the system isn’t exactly the easiest to use. Adjusting settings in the truck has taken a few minutes to figure out while flipping through menus.

With the 2021 Ford F-150, making adjustments seems easy. It only took seconds to adjust certain settings and display crucial information about towing or off-roading.

The head-up display is a bit blurry in the Tundra right now, and I’m about to give up and Google how to adjust it. Also, it took quite a bit of time to figure out how to learn about all the buttons and what they do.

The Mode button on the steering wheel changes the audio source, and the heated steering wheel button is to the left of the steering column.

I still have a few more days with the 2022 Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition to learn more about it. So far, it seems like the more comfortable truck for driving around town or the farm, but the Ford F-150 seems to be better equipped for getting work done.
