Drivers Considered the Chevy Silverado More Than the Ford F-150
It’s unusual to see the Ford F-150 in second place, but the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 just knocked it down a peg. More new vehicle buyers considered getting the 2023 Chevy Silverado than the 2023 Ford F-150, and we’re here to discover why.
2023 Chevy Silverado vs 2023 Ford F-150: Which truck is better?
The 2023 Chevy Silverado and 2023 Ford F-150 have unique qualities to suit different needs. They don’t compare apples to apples and outperform each other in various ways. For example, the Silverado has a diesel engine, and the F-150 has hybrid and electric options.
Regarding sales, the F-150 is king, but things might be changing. According to the Kelley Blue Book Brand Watch report, more drivers considered buying the Silverado than the F-150 during the first quarter of 2023.
The Silverado was the most considered non-luxury vehicle, and the F-150 landed in second place. But the F-150 came in first during the fourth quarter of 2022 and experienced a 6% increase in growth.
The Silverado experienced a 17% increase in consideration for new vehicle buyers. The GMC Sierra 1500 is in third place, the Ram 1500 came in fourth, and Ford Super Duty trucks landed in fifth.
Is the Silverado more reliable than the F-150?
According to J.D.Power, the 2023 Chevy Silverado has a reliability score of 87 out of 100. This is excellent because scores between 87 and 90 are above average. It came close to landing in the 91 to 100 range, which is the best.
The 2023 Ford F-150 earned a score of 86 out of 100. So, it’s in the same bracket as the Silverado and only one point behind. That’s a minor victory for the Silverado.
You can expect the average Silverado truck to last over 200,000 miles before severe repairs pop up. It’s not uncommon for well-maintained Silverado models to make it over 300,000 miles.
The average F-150 truck should make it to 200,000 miles before any major problems occur. The F-150 is also well-suited to make it past 300,000 miles with the proper care and maintenance.
Both trucks can provide roughly 20 years of service on the road if you drive an average of 15,000 miles annually.
The average annual maintenance cost is $700 for the Silverado and $770 for the F-150. So, the Silverado is slightly cheaper to maintain and a tiny bit more reliable.
Does the F-150 or Silverado have more value?
The 2023 Ford F-150 has more value than the 2023 Chevy Silverado. The F-150 has more standard features, more advanced tech, can tow more, has more safety features, and is more comfortable.
Lower trims of the Silverado still have a dated style and cheaper materials. It does offer features such as a premium audio system, max recline seats, a panoramic moonroof, an onboard generator, or a trailer parking assist.
Both trucks have massive touchscreens, a wireless charging pad, wireless Apple CarPlat and Android Auto, and a 360-degree camera display. But Ford tech is more intuitive and easier to use.
Also, the F-150 offers a smoother ride and a quieter cabin. But the Ram 1500 is still the most comfortable truck.
People might consider the Silverado more because it’s slightly more reliable. However, we aren’t sure if more interest will lead to more sales. Stay tuned for the next sales report.
