Despite his superstardom and immense wealth, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson often comes across as a very likable “everyman.” By all appearances, this is genuine, as he seems to enjoy connecting with people from all walks of life. Recently, Johnson showed his everyman appeal when he gave his custom Ford F-150 truck to Navy veteran Oscar Rodriguez.

It’s one thing to just simply give away a car, but The Rock took things in a personal direction by gifting the Navy vet his custom F-150. Johnson, who stars in the movie, Red Notice, shared this heartwarming moment with an Instagram post and video.  

In the caption below the video, Johnson shared his thoughts on the special moment. He stated, “Today was a good day. Merry Christmas @coach_orod and enjoy your new truck. I invited fans to a special theater screening of RED NOTICE and I wanted to do something cool for all of them. Free concessions, @projectrock, @teremana, @zoaenergy, @saltandstraw ice cream. Free everything and a great time at the movies!”

The Rock then detailed his thinking behind giving the Navy vet his custom Ford F-150 truck. He continued, “My original idea was to give away the Porsche Taycan, that I drive in the movie, Red Notice. So we reached out to Porsche, but they said no. But I still said, yes, I’ll do one better. I’ll give away my personal custom truck as a gift. My baby.”

Johnson explains why he gave his F-150 to the Navy veteran

Johnson then described why he chose Oscar Rodriguez as the recipient of his custom F-150. He stated, “I gathered as much information as I could about everyone in the audience and ultimately, Oscar’s story moved me. Takes care of his 75-year-old mom. Personal trainer. Leader at his church. Provides support and meals for women victimized by domestic violence. Proud & humble Navy veteran. Kind human being. 

The Rock then closed out his heartfelt message by writing, “Oscar said it right, just before he drove away ~ it’s just love. That’s all it is, brother. Just love. Go enjoy your new truck dude and Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!”

Navy vet to Dwayne Johnson: ‘What the heck is happening?’

In the Instagram video, Johnson gives the Navy veteran a card that explains that the F-150 truck is now his. After this, Rodriguez dropped to the ground, started to cry, and said, “What the heck is happening?” Rodrguez then gave Johnson a hug. 

The heartwarming moment of Johnson gifting the Navy veteran his Ford F-150 was after he surprised him at a movie theater screening of Red Notice. “Your story really moved me because I hear that you’re a personal trainer. You’re always keeping it positive and motivational and optimistic,” said Johnson to Rodriguez while in front of moviegoers at the screening. 

Johnson discussed the special moment after the Navy veteran drove off in his custom Ford F-150 truck. He stated, “[It was] just an honor for me to give a little bit of joy to someone who deserves a lot more than just my truck. And now I can figure out how I’m getting home. Cause I don’t have my ride.”

Undoubtedly, many fans would be willing to give Johnson a ride home. It was a great deed and an uplifting moment of The Rock giving his truck to Rodriguez Along with having an unforgettable experience with a movie superstar, the Navy vet now gets to enjoy a highly capable truck.
