Overlanding is a big adventure. There are borders to cross and markets to explore. Sometimes, there are favorite places to return to. Other times you there will be day after day of waking up in a place you’ve never been before. But there are logistical overlanding problems that require solutions, as well––that’s part of the adventure. If you buy eggs on your journey, you may open your egg carton to find cracked eggs after jouncing around on some remote dirt road in the wilderness. Some have even learned that when you buy your eggs, you have to cook some fresh right then and there then boil the rest. The EarthCruiser vehicles, according to engineer Austin Steimer and general manager Chad Knight, have made it a non-issue.

Where has this camper RV design team been?

Not only did they develop a proprietary 4WD system, but they’ve also tested their handiwork all over the world. Each trip and its various excitements and overlanding problems has undoubtedly inspired improvements along the way for the entire EarthCruiser lineup of overland off-road vehicles. That kind of experience is vital to developing a truly dynamic and usable overland product.

The team completed the 2019 Baja XL Overland Rally with 3 EXPs and one FX off-road overland vehicles. Additionally, the EarthCruiser team completed the Budapest to Bamako Rally in an EarthCruiser EXP off-road RV. This Rally started in Europe, across the Sahara, and down the west African coast totaling 5,100 miles. In fact, even the founder of EarthCruiser completed the one of a kind Borneo Equator Expedition. This meant a month in the deep jungle with an EarthCruiser off-road RV.

The company itself has won some awards, too. In addition to the 2016 Bend Chamber of Commerce New and Emerging Business of the Year title, EarthCruiser has earned other awards as well. In 2017, for instance, the company earned the Emerging Exporter Award. Plus, a 10 Best Overland Vehicle award at the 2019 SEMA show.

The dedicated EarthCruiser team doesn’t just fit a cab-over design onto a chassis and move on. Every detail is thought out and engineered accordingly. Things they learn along the way from all their experience go into every build. The specialized suspension that the vehicles receive makes overlanding easier than it’s ever been. In an interview, I asked Austin and Chad about the overland problem of cracked eggs.
