Electric pickup trucks are becoming more and more popular. Nearly every car manufacturer that produces internal combustion engine pickup trucks is now also looking toward a future of electric trucks. Many have already begun production, like the Ford Lightning. Still others, like the Tesla Cybertruck, are still in the dreaming phase. The new EdisonFuture EFT-1 pickup truck is one of those not-yet-reality electric trucks that we’re seeing more and more of. We don’t know the EdisonFuture pickup truck price yet – or anything else about it, really.

Like the Tesla Cybertruck, the EdisonFuture EFT-1 is mostly speculative right now – and that’s not where the similarities between the Cybertruck and the EFT-1 end. One glance and you might be confused about which pickup you’re looking at. Can the EdisonFuture EFT-1 pose a serious threat to the assumed popularity of the Tesla Cybertruck?

Here’s what we know about the EdisonFuture EFT-1 pickup truck

The EdisonFuture EFT-1 pickup truck is a newcomer in the alternatively-styled electric pickup truck segment. Like the Cybertruck, the EFT-1 will be the kind of truck that only kind of looks like a pickup truck. However, while the Tesla Cybertruck is angular and spaceship-like, the EdisonFuture EFT-1 is a tad bit more conventional.

The EdisonFuture EFT-1 truck would have solar panels on its roof so that it could charge on sunny days. It would also have a retractable cover for its bed that would look like an armadillo back. That would also have solar panel chargers for additional range. While it’s possible that this technology could up the EdisonFuture pickup truck price, there’s no word yet on whether it will be a costly addition.

It appears that the Tesla Cybetruck may also have available solar panels. These may come in the form of an “ecat” system, according to Torque News.

What is the EdisonFuture truck range?

The EdisonFuture EFT-1 will be capable of up to 450 miles. That’s on the EdisonFuture truck model with three motors. There will be two other EdisonFuture pickup truck models, including a single-motor model that gets 300 miles of range, and a dual-motor model that gets 380 miles of range.

Similarly, the Tesla Cybertruck was previously reported to have a single motor, dual motor, and tri motor option. The single motor Tesla Cybertruck would be capable of 250 miles of range. The dual range motor would be capable of 300 miles, and the tri motor option would be able to get 500 mile of range or more.

The Tesla Cybertruck and EdisonFuture EFT-1 are similarly fast

Tesla has removed the Cybertruck specs from its website and now says that you’ll be able to configure your Cybertruck when it gets closer to release. While that suggests that some of its previous specs have changed, the Cybertruck’s formerly stated capabilities are pretty similar to the EdisonFuture truck. Eerily similar. Like, exactly the same.

The Tesla Cybertruck single motor could go from 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds. The single motor EdisonFuture EFT-1 can go from 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds. The dual motor Cybertruck can get from 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds – the same as the EdisonFuture picup truck. However, the tri motor Tesla Cybertruck can go from 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds (or at least its website used to proclaim so). The EdisonFuture EFT-1, on the other hand takes a whole 3.9 seconds to get to 60 mph.

It’s not a surprise that other electric vehicle makers would want to imitate the success that Tesla has been experiencing. And while concept SUVs and trucks are a far cry from the actual SUVs and trucks once they’re produced, it looks as though Tesla may have some serious competition in the form of the EdisonFuture EFT-1. The EdisonFuture pickup truck price hasn’t been released, but to be competitive with the Cybertruck, it’s possible that it will be priced similarly. With a potential release date sometime in 2025, we have some time to learn more about the EdisonFuture EFT-1 before it comes out – and to see just what the Tesla Cybertruck is like.
