The 2022 Ford Mustang is the latest model in the sixth generation of the iconic muscle car. The Mustang model offers drivers plenty on the road in a segment with plenty of options. Though it gives a lot of power at a bargain price, there are some drawbacks. Here’s what Edmunds reviewers listed as the top cons of the 2022 Ford Mustang:
Impractical back seat
The iconic Mustang model provides lots for drivers to enjoy like power, style, and speed. Tall drivers can drive a Ford Mustang but there is a drawback in the cabin: a tight squeeze in the back seats.
Edmunds notes the 2022 Ford Mustang has long doors which make it hard to fully open in parking spaces. There’s the trouble of folding forward the front seats and once passengers get in, getting comfortable is tough. There’s the same head, leg, hip, and shoulder room as in a Toyota Corolla but with a roof that slopes down more aggressively. Reviewers say the 2022 Ford Mustang’s rear seats may be limiting even for children.
Performance-package ride quality can be harsh
This applies to the Mustang models with the optional high-performance package for two trims: the base EcoBoost and Premium. This package ups power figures from the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine up to 332 horsepower from 310. It also upgrades the brakes and exhaust but updates the suspension to be more sport-focused.
The stiffer suspension on the high-performance package is noticeable in the ride quality. It may be sportier but is less suited for longer drives.

Pros of the 2022 Ford Mustang
It’s not all bad, though. Edmunds points to three things the 2022 Ford Mustang gets right.
Drivers get strong power from both the base Ecoboost engine and the 5.0-liter V8 fitted in the GT, GT Premium, and Mach 1 trims. The Ecoboost 2.3-liter engine pushes out 310 horsepower and an impressive 350 lb-ft of torque. That base engine outpaces the figures you get from competitors like the Chevrolet Camaro (275 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque) and the Dodge Challenger (303 and 268) at a comparable price.
The 5.0-liter V8 gives drivers 450 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque for the GT and GT Premium trims. The track-focused Mach 1 brings the Mustang to 470 horsepower with lots of enhancements brought from the Shelby GT500 model.
Reviewers also note the civilized ride and low noise levels in the cabin. The sport suspension in the high-performance package may be too stiff for longer rides but the stock suspension provides plenty of comfort. Reviewers note the seats offer a lot of support and the cabin remains quiet even with Mustang models fitted with the V8 engine.
The final pro comes in the cabin as well. Edmunds reviewers say the cabin blends modern convenience with retro style. All Mustang models come with plenty of technology. The base trim has a 4.2-inch infotainment screen that bumps up to eight inches for all other trims. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration are included in every model, as is a WiFi hotspot.
The steering wheel keeps the iconic Mustang logo and the model’s interior keeps with that style. Round shapes with carbon fiber and chrome tones balance a retro look with a clean, modern feel.
