There’s no doubt society is shifting toward electric cars. With major automakers releasing new and revolutionary battery technology, it’s a race to build the most efficient EVs out there. And while many wonder if electric cars and trucks are worth it, others are showing their support with their wallet. So let’s take a look at the four states where electric cars are the fastest-selling used cars.

The four states where used electric cars sell faster than gas-powered cars are Georgia, Maryland, Oregon, and Texas. Odd considering how vastly different these states are in location and ideologies. But the keyword is that these states are buying used, not new. Not a single state in the US is buying new electric cars faster than gas-powered ones, according to iSeeCars.

In Georgia, the fastest-selling new car is the Hyundai Palisade, which takes 4.1 days to sell on average. Now, to clarify that statistic, this means when the car enters the dealership, it takes 4.1 days to sell. Not that only one car is sold every 4.1 days.

In Maryland, it takes a Hyundai Santa Cruz just days to roll off the dealership lot. In Oregon, the Kia Seltos is being bought every 3.5 days on average. And in Texas, the fastest-selling new car is the Toyota Rav4 Prime, with purchases being made 3.7 days after they enter the dealership.

Even amidst new car shortages and sky-high car prices, people are going out to buy new cars. But for the four states that prioritize used electric cars over used gas cars, which EVs are they buying?

Which used electric vehicles are these four states buying?

In Georgia, Texas, and Oregon, the fastest-selling used electric car is the Tesla Model 3. Though, Maryland likes them the most, selling a used Tesla Model 3 every 12.4 days on average, followed by Georgia at 12.7 days. And a Model 3 rolls off a Texas used car lot every 13.5 days, making it the slowest of the states, but not by much.

Oregon, however, is a bit of a wild card. The fastest-selling electric car is the Chevy Bolt EV. And while some Chevy Bolts have a tendency to catch fire, the used EV takes 18.3 days to sell. While that’s not exactly fast, at least compared to Maryland, Georgia, and Texas, it’s better than nothing.

However, electric vehicles are just one of the many paths forward. In fact, major automakers like Toyota believe BEVs aren’t the only solution. They’ve banked on hydrogen power, and just need the infrastructure to follow suit. But many see hybrid vehicles as another emissions slashing solution.

Hybrid vehicles are becoming increasingly popular across the country

New and used hybrid vehicles have grown immensely popular in recent times. Hybrids make up the fastest-selling new cars in seven states, and the fastest-selling used car in eight.

The six states that are all in on new hybrid vehicles are Florida, Iowa, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wisconsin. For starters, Toyota sells a Rav4 Prime every 3.1 days in Oklahoma and 3.7 days in Texas. Meanwhile, selling the fully hybrid Toyota Sienna takes 5.8 days in Iowa and 4.7 days in Louisiana. And in Florida, the Toyota Highlander hybrid is the fastest-selling new hybrid, taking an average of 4.7 days to be purchased. Needless to say, Toyota is winning the hybrid game.

Wisconsin, however, is a bit of an outlier. The fastest-selling new hybrid there is the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, which takes 4.5 days to sell. This isn’t the only state where a Jeep Wrangler is the fastest-selling new car, New Yorkers love their Wranglers too. But it is the only state where the Jeep hybrid is the fastest-selling vehicle.

Meanwhile, the eight states going after used hybrid cars are Arizona, California, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. And it should come as a surprise to nobody that the Toyota Prius is the most popular hybrid. The Prius stands as the fastest-selling used hybrid in Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. And it takes anywhere from 13.7 to 18.6 days to sell one.

Arizona and California, however, are both betting on the Honda Insight, which takes 14 days on average to sell in California, and just nine days to sell in Arizona.

All interesting statistics as hybrids and electric cars take over, but there’s work to be done for a cleaner tomorrow.
