Complete Electric truck list: 3 Available Now, and 11 That Should Arrive Someday
The electric truck wars are just beginning. Electric motors make a lot of sense for a truck for a variety of reasons, like power and instant torque, and a truck’s inherent weight means that nobody minds if your clean vehicle also weighs multiple tons. Despite promises from companies like Tesla and Nikola that their trucks would be here soon, we still haven’t seen their trucks on the roads yet.
Regardless, there are some trucks you can buy now, some that are coming soon, and others that are still in the prototype stage, and could be forever.
These three are the electric pickups available now
These three electric pickups you can buy today. Though they’re rare, because of limited supply and demand. However, chances are you’ll start to see these trucks on the road soon, if not already.
The F-150 Lightning sets the standard
The Ford F-150 Lighting certainly made a splash when Ford started delivering them in 2022. The Lightning does truck stuff well, it’s fast, it’s comfortable, and most importantly, it looks like a truck. While the base price increased significantly, from about $40,000 to about $52,000 for 2023, it looks like Ford has a hit on its hands.
The standard truck has two motors, and 426 horsepower with a 230-mile range. With an extended-range battery, you get more power and up to 320 miles per charge.
Rivian R1T is the first from an independent manufacturer
The Rivian R1T is the first truck to come to market from a smaller manufacturer. In this case, it’s a $67,500 midsize truck that makes 835 horsepower and has a range of 280 to more than 300 miles depending on the battery size. The R1T has monster utility ratings compared to other midsize trucks; it can tow up to 11,000 pounds, while every other midsize truck can tow around 7,000 pounds.
GM resurrected Hummer with its first EV pickup truck
The Hummer EV was the first supertruck and it launched with 1,000 horsepower for $107,000 at the beginning of 2022. Sure, Hummer has been slow to deliver many of these big, bad, and brawny trucks. But if you can find one, it’s 3.3-second 0-to-60 mph blast will rearrange your organs, while it’s off-road ability will shock you. While this 9,000-pound truck has a range of 329 miles, that’s only if you can keep yourself from putting the hammer down.

We’ve been waiting for a while for the new Cybertruck, and salivating over the new Lordstown endurance. Will we actually see these trucks soon?
When will the Cybertruck come out?
Will they? Won’t they? We’ve been waiting for the wizards at Tesla to launch the Cybertruck since 2019. But the latest news from Reuters is that the truck will begin mass production for release in late 2023 at its Austin, Texas, plant. The company promised that the Cybertruck will have up to 800 horsepower and a 500-mile range.
GMC Sierra EV: coming in 2024
At first, the new 2024 Sierra EV can only be ordered in $107,000 luxury Denali trim. But if you want an electric luxury truck, it may top many of the others on this list with a long list of standard features and a new interior design that looks like it’s right out of a Polestar 3. But, this is a truck that can do truck stuff, and it should make 754 horsepower with a 400-mile range, just like its competing Chevy Silverado EV brother.
Silverado EV: coming in 2023
The Silverado EV should start at around $40,000 for a work truck version, making it one of the least expensive new EV trucks you can buy. But, add some options and you can get a Silverado EV as luxurious as the new Sierra EV. Just like the Sierra EV it uses GM’s Ultium skateboard platform and that means four-wheel drive and four-wheel steering. The WT version will debut with 510 horsepower and a 400-mile range.
Ram EV: debuts in January of 2023
Ram keeps teasing us with images of its EV truck. We thought we’d get a look at it during the 2022 SEMA show in November, but the debut of the truck was pushed back to early 2023. Though we haven’t seen the specs on the new truck, Ram’s CEO is promising that it will tow, haul, and do regular truck stuff with aplomb.
Canoo looks weird, but it’s coming
The Canoo truck certainly looks like nothing else on the road, with a rounded bubble cabin and a long bed. The California-based startup is on the path to production and recently signed a deal with Walmart to provide 10,000 electric Lifestyle Delivery Vehicles, which is the van version of its upcoming truck. However, according to recent SEC filings, the company says it’s ready to start production on November 17 of its new vehicles.
Foxconn invested in Lordstown
Lordstown is in a unique position in that its production capability was tenuous. But, iPhone maker Foxconn made a huge investment in Lordstown and that infusion of capital, and industrial know-how, could turn the tide for this Ohio-based manufacturer. The company went through several ups and downs, however, it now says that it’s in production and plans to deliver 50 trucks to owners by the end of 2022.
The Lordstown Endurance truck uses hub-mounted motors instead of a platform like GM or Ford, which give it a unique positon in the market.
The list of prototypes is growing
Some of the upcoming trucks, like the Canoo and the Ram, could belong in this category. Some of these may be further along than their companies are letting on. But, it seems like some EV trucks have been rumored, planned, or developed for so long
Toyota needs an EV pickup truck, but hasn’t shared details
Toyota’s Tacoma truck and 4Runner SUV are aging. They’re still fine trucks, but it looks like Toyota is aiming to build an EV version of a truck soon. The company hasn’t said much, and it might not even be a Tacoma but instead something that is between its mid-sized Tacoma and full-sized Tundra trucks. Toyota has showed off a number of electric concepts and an EV from Toyota would be highly anticipated.
The Alpha Wolf is the sport truck of the bunch
Looking for all the world like a two-door 1980s off-road truck, the Alpha Wolf seems to go after the play, not work, side of the truck world. The Alpha company, based in Irvine, Ca., has plans for coupes, sedans, SUVs and trucks. But, it’s the truck that we’re most interested in. It will come as a two-door or four-door. Alpha is taking reservations now for the truck that could cost as much as $56,000 when it debuts next year.
Nikola is also based in Arizona, but sells trucks in Europe
Nikola was once believed to be close to producing its hydrogen semi trucks and electric pickup trucks, but last month its founder was found guilty of fraud by a New York court. Regardless, Nikola, which was the first name of Nikola Tesla, has delivered big rigs for Europe and development of its consumer grade Badger truck seems to be continuing.
Atlis Motor Vehicles plans to start production of its XT truck by the end of 2022. Atlis, which is based in Mesa Arizona, builds its own batteries and platforms. It’s stock is publicly traded on the NASDAQ. The company has also been linked to Nissan as a possible EV partner. Atlis is making some bold projections for its truck, including a 500-mile range, a 35,000-pounds towing capacity, and a fast charing system that can fill it in 15 minutes, all with a target price of $45,000 to $85,000.
Could Nissan join the fray, too?
Electric startup Hercules and Nissan are working on an agreement to build a new electric truck, according to Green Car Reports. One glance at the Hercules Alpha on the on the company’s website, and it’s simply a Nissan Titan with a different grille and bed. Hercules has said it’s partnering with Italy’s Pininfarina for a new truck. Nissan, though, has experience with EVs and its Leaf has been a popular entry-level EV for several years.
