Trucks are one of the most popular segments in the American car market, and EV trucks are coming soon with the ability to shake up the segment. That being said, one concern some truck lovers have with EV trucks is their capabilities off-road. The good news is that it shouldn’t be something truck lovers worry about during the upcoming electric truck wars. There’s already one electric truck with a ground clearance of over 10 inches.

EV trucks like the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Rivian R1T have some good ground clearance

Currently, the electric truck market is pretty empty, as there are only three electric trucks in production. More are coming soon, but right now, there are only three. Two of these trucks don’t have a ground clearance over 10 inches, but they are still up there.

According to Edmunds, the 2022 Rivian R1T has a ground clearance of 8.7 inches. The Lightning boasts a ground clearance of 8.9 inches, which is slightly bigger than the Rivian’s.

In comparison, the regular F-150 has about 9.3 inches. This makes the Lightning and the R1T’s numbers about average for a pickup truck. That said, one electric pickup truck is already in production with a significantly bigger ground clearance than even the regular F-150: the GMC Hummer EV.

According to Edmunds, the Hummer EV has a standard ground clearance of 10.1 inches. This is almost a full inch more than what the standard F-150 has, and it’s over an inch more than what the other EV truck options offer. The Hummer EV has an ample ground clearance partially because it’s a big car in general.

Unfortunately, the Hummer EV’s huge size, as well as its vast specs, also mean that its price tag is huge as well. The Hummer EV produced currently gets 1,000 hp and 11,500 lb-ft of torque combined. Those impressive specs are paired with a 200-kWh battery, allowing it to get over 300 miles of range. All of that power will come at a price tag of just under $110,000.

The EV truck war is heating up, and fans will have to sit and wait

As the EV truck war continues, automakers will be competing against one another to make trucks that can off-road well. That said, until those trucks come out, their ground clearance numbers aren’t known. But in the case of the Tesla Cybertruck, Tesla claims the Cybertruck will have a maximum ground clearance of about 16 inches. Obviously, Tesla has to start production of the Cybertruck first before truck lovers can use that considerable ground clearance.

Tesla isn’t the only automaker making electric trucks; another electric truck with a lot of hype behind it is the Chevy Silverado EV. Since Chevy is a capable automaker, many fans expect a great EV that can off-road well and have some reasonable ground clearance. Lesser-known automakers are looking to make a name for themselves too, such as the Fisker Alaska.
