New information about 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning pre-orders isn’t great news for the Tesla Cybertruck. Neither electric truck has been released, but their rivalry is already set in stone. Here’s why the Ford F-150 Lightning is already zapping the Tesla Cybertruck.

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning has the ability to steal Tesla’s thunder because of its incredible value. According to InsideEVs, Tesla owners account for at least 11% of total Ford F-150 Lightning pre-orders. While 11% may not sound like a lot, Tesla is also responsible for the majority of the total electric vehicle market share. Ford is definitely a contender in the electric vehicle space, thanks to the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E.

Now, the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning seems to be posing a threat to Tesla as well. The Ford F-150 is America’s favorite truck, so an electrified version is bound to draw in consumers. The F-150 Lightning brings a much-needed familiarity to the strange, new electric vehicle space. Many automakers have opted for futuristic designs that deviate from the designs of their respective lineups.

The Blue Oval sticks to the script with the F-150 Lightning and combines modern innovation with a body that tugs at the heartstrings of American truck enthusiasts. The new electric truck may be an EV, but it’s still an F-150. That nameplate is synonymous with power and reliability. Ford has become a brand that consumers can trust over its decades of vehicle production. It’s easy to get the attention of Tesla owners when Tesla has had so many issues with its vehicles.

The Tesla Cybertruck debuted way back in 2019. It has been featured in music videos. There are even Cybertruck toys, but the electric truck’s official release date is anyone’s guess. The Cybertruck has been pushed back several times, and automotive designers have even commented on some of its major design flaws.

Tesla’s new electric truck is innovative, but is it perhaps too innovative for its own good? The Tesla Cybertruck’s cold-rolled stainless-steel exterior may protect drivers in the event of an accident, but its limited visibility won’t do drivers any good.

When the Cybertruck does finally come out, consumers could potentially find that the truck has several annoying functionality issues. The company claims to have over one million pre-orders, so get ready for a long wait.

Tesla has proven that it can manufacture electric vehicles capable of amazing feats, and the automaker deserves its credit. Tesla is a pioneer in electric vehicle production and thus is responsible for most of today’s electric vehicle sales in America. Ford may not have Tesla’s track record for producing electric vehicles yet, but it does have a history of producing vehicles that consumers have loved for decades.

The Ford F-150 Lightning is coming from the same automaker that produced America’s beloved Mustang and F-150. Ford’s quality has remained consistent. Tesla has experienced some bumps in the road as a new automaker. Tesla vehicles have had accidents using their semi-autonomous driving mode. The company has had its fair share of tech bugs as well.

Ultimately, Ford has more experience producing vehicles, and that experience is appealing to Tesla owners that are struggling with the hurdles involved in Tesla ownership. The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning starts at $39,974 but can start as low as $32,474 after tax credits. It comes standard with 230 miles of range and makes a whopping 563 horses. If the Lightning is able to strike first, the Cybertruck may not be able to strike back.
