For many of us the first electric or hybrid vehicles we knew where small cars like the Smart cars or Toyota Prius. It makes sense that these smaller, lighter cars require less energy, but a lot has changed in the car industry since then. Today we see electric cars that offer performance, luxury, and some of them are spacious enough to make comfortable daily drivers or family vehicles.

Tesla’s electric vehicles always seem to be the answer

No matter what list you are looking at, if it concerns electric vehicles, Tesla seems to make the list. While they aren’t always reliable, there is just something about Tesla’s that makes them great cars. Their modest appearance doesn’t do much to turn heads, but they do look oddly futuristic. Their exterior might not be much to look at, but the same can’t be said for the interior. The spacious yet straightforward interior was designed to be driver and passenger-oriented for both the Model 3 and the Model S, providing premium comfort and a surprising amount of space.

The unsuspecting Kia Niro

The Kia Niro is much less talked about than other electric cars, but that could be a good thing. The Niro isn’t the most popular option on the market, so you won’t have to worry about parking next to another one at the grocery store. Their odd-looking appearances have all of the iconic stylings of other electric cars, like touches of blue, the large flat-designed wheels, and solid grille. The interior is comfortable and spacious, almost making it as lovely as a luxury SUV.

The Audi e-tron

The Audi e-tron was a car that even I was excited about this year — and I’m a BMW stan. The e-tron was supposed to tie together the iconic luxury of Audi with an all-electric SUV of the future, and it turned out great. We aren’t really sure why the car doesn’t get as much hype as it deserves. The e-tron receives high ratings from popular websites like Consumer Reports, and not just for its luxury features and good looks. The Audi e-tron offers a sporty driving experience and has more than enough space to be a practical SUV, on the road, or even off, without having a gasoline engine.

Electric cars have skyrocketed in popularity over the past few decades. The new market has driven a lot of innovation for a new age of technology and transportation. They aren’t just a car of the future, they are a car of the ‘now’ and we are excited to see how quickly they’ve evolved. From performance-oriented cars to spacious luxury SUVs, electric cars can do everything a traditional combustion-engine car can, and perhaps even better.
