The Electrified Genesis GV70 Is a Force to Be Reckoned With
Welcome the electrified Genesis GV70 to America. It’s the first official Genesis SUV to be built in the United States and builds upon the Keep Beginning moto by disrupting the luxury automotive market with another premium competitor. The 2023 Genesis Electrifed GV70 is ready to strike.
How much power does the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 have?
The 2023 Genesis Electified GV70 used dual motors and a high-capacity battery to place 420 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque at your fingertips. The motors for the front and rear wheels deliver dynamic power and optimal performance.
This premium SUV is lightning fast, with the ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. Plus, there is a Boost Mode feature that acts like a launch control system. You press the button on the steering wheel to enjoy the powertrain’s optimal performance for 10 seconds.
The system takes over for 10 seconds to slingshot you forward. To be honest, pressing this button was pretty addictive on the highway and country roads around Atlanta, Georgia.
There are driving modes for Sport, Comfort, and Eco. Each mode is noticeably different. The Sport mode tightens the seat bolstering to hold you in place with faster response times are firmer brakes.
The Comfort mode is softer and more relaxed, while the Eco mode slows things down a bit. You can create your own custom mode to combine your favorite parts of each mode. For example, you can combine the Comfort mode acceleration response with the Sport mode braking performance.
There are also three levels of regenerative braking. As more energy is returned to the batteries, the faster the Genesis GV70 EV comes to a stop. It may slow down too quickly in some situations. Also, the I PEDAL mode allows you to accelerate and decelerate with only the accelerator pedal.
The I PEDAL mode was impressive and in control in stop-and-go traffic. But when the roads were clear, Sport mode was our favorite. The GV70 provides an instant acceleration with smooth gear changes and confident brakes.
Typically electric vehicles have softer brakes, but the GV70 EV is perfectly tuned. The steering is responsive for power and stability around tight curves. It feels well-planted, athletic, and confident. But it can also provide a relaxing, low-effort experience for daily driving.
How much range does the 2023 Electrifed GV70 have?
The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 has an EPA-estimated range of up to 236 miles. This may seem low at first, but in reality, this is enough power for daily commutes and running errands. Plus, this premium electric SUV has innovative charging times and tech.
If the vehicle has about a 10 percent charge left, it can regain about 60 miles in nearly five minutes. Plus, you can go from 10 to 80 percent in under 20 minutes with a DC fast charger. With a Level II charger, it takes about seven hours to replenish the battery.
Battery heating is based on temperature and destination to provide the optimal performance. Also, the Electfied GV70 comes with three years of complimentary charging with Electrify America.
Best of all, the charging port is hidden at the front of the grille. This solves a significant charging issue because, typically, charging cables are too short to reach ports in the rear unless you back into the space.
We drove for hours, and the charge held steady. While pressing the boost button over and over on back country roads and crawling through a traffic jam, the EPA estimate was spot on.
Is the Electric Genesis GV70 comfortable?
Yes, the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 is extremely comfortable. It has a front-wheel MacPherson multi-link suspension and a five-link muli-link rear suspension. It builds upon the gas-powered GV-70 with an improved suspension and tuning.
The electronically controlled suspension with road preview provides a buttery smooth performance over rough sections of the pavement. It’s like the SUV effortlessly glides, unaffected by potholes and larger impacts. But the tires could provide a little more sense of grip.
At lower speeds, the vehicle is peacefully silent. The electric GV70 has optimal sound absorption through its insulation design. The noise reduction is noticeable for a peaceful cabin, but wind noise is a little noticeable at highway speeds.
The front seats are well-passed and supportive, with an ergonomic design to keep you focused, relaxed, and energized. There are plenty of adjustment controls for people of all shapes are sizes.
We were impressed by the robust climate control system. The tri-zone automatic climate control is intelligent and effective. The ventilated seats are incredibly strong, and the heated seats are toasty.
How is the Electric GV70’s interior?
The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 provides a sense of upscale luxury with an elegant design and premium materials such as Nappa leather upholstery, a plush suede headliner, leatherette-covered surfaces, aluminum trim, and a panoramic sunroof.
Everything is placed within reach with an elegant design, but some folks may want more physical controls. The ambient lighting is bright and attractive, and the Genesis GV70 EV has an exclusive Glacier White two-tone design. You can opt for Obsidian black too.
While the Electric GV70 creates an inviting and welcoming space, the tint on the sunroof is pretty dark, making it difficult to see the sky. Also, it’s crafted with eco-friendly recycled materials to emphasize sustainability.
The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 starts at $ 65,850 with a $1,125 destination fee, creating a luxurious bargain. For example, standard features include AWD, 20-inch wheels, heated/ventilated seats, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and built-in navigation.
Moving up in trim levels provides access to a 3D digital gauge cluster, head-up display, heated seats in the second row, premium trim features, and a Lexicon premium audio system.
We can’t wait to spend an entire week with the Electrified GV70 soon. But our first takeaways involve its thrilling, captivating performance that’s easy to customize, attractive interior with unmatched comfort, and class-leading charging times.
