Electrify America Gives the 2022 Ford F-150 Lighting Free Charging
If you don’t have a charge then you won’t get very far in the Ford F-150 Lighting. However, you can recharge the battery for free, which is almost like getting a free tank of gas. Electrify America just made the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning a little sweeter by offering free charges.
The 2022 Ford F-150 Lighting gets free charges
Plugging in the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning at charging networks or at home costs money. Sure, you can plug it in at home and forget about it, but you’ll notice the extra fees in your next electric bill.
Plus, if you don’t have a 240-volt household outlet available, then it will take days to charge your vehicle with a regular plug. Installing a home charge can cost between $500 to $1,500 bucks, then you have to pay someone to put it in.
But Electrify America is giving EV owners a brake. Those with the Ford Mustang Mach-E or Ford F-150 Lightning can access the ultra-fast charging station for free. But it’s not free forever. You get complimentary 250-kilowatt hours of charging before you have to pay.
That’s enough free juice to recharge the standard F-150 Lightning three times for about 575 miles of range.
With the extended-range battery, the fast chargers can replenish about 54 miles of range in 10 minutes and recharge the battery from 15 percent to 80 percent in about 40 minutes
How much does it cost to charge the F-150 Lightning?
The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning charging price is related to the energy cost. The cheapest way to charge your truck and the most convenient option is to charge it at home. But prices vary by state.
In New Jersey, the cost per kWh is 15 cents, so charging 10,000 miles adds up to $628.00. Charging 20,000 miles costs about $1,256. North Dakota charges 10 cents per kWh, so charging 10,000 miles only cost $419.
According to Inside EVs, the Electrify America network charges $0.31 per kWh, leading to $1,432 per 10,000 miles. You can pay $0.24 per minute, though, which comes to about $554 per 10,000 miles.
The Ford F-150 Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 24 mpg combined. If gas is $3.00 per gallon, then it costs about $1,250 per 10,000 miles. If gas is $4.00 per gallon, then the price increases to $1,667 for 10,000 miles.
How much range does the F-150 Lightning have?
The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning has a standard range of 230 miles per charge. You can upgrade to the extended-range model for an EPA-estimated 320 miles on a single charge. The standard Lightning starts at $39,974.
You have to upgrade to the XLT trim for $59,474 to gain the option for the extended-range battery pack. Selecting that option increases the price to $80,973. So, that’s roughly a $40,999 increase to get more range.
With the standard-range battery, you get 446 hp, and the extended-range battery gets 580 hp. Both setups have 775 lb-ft of torque.
So the Ford F-150 Lightning can get expensive in a hurry. It should be cheaper to charge your EV at home than to fill a truck with gas, but the hybrid F-150 still provides savings. At least you get a break with some free charging from Electrify America.
