Engine Failure Haunts the 2022 Ram 1500 and Jeep Wagoneer
Sound the alarm, because one massive truck and one large SUV are being investigated due to reports of engine failure. The Ram 1500 and the Jeep Wagoneer could have a massive recall on the way, depending on how the investigation goes.
The 2022 Ram 1500 and Jeep Wagoneer could have engine problems
The 2022 Ram 1500 and Jeep Wagoneer models that are under investigation for potential engine failure are the models equipped with the 5.7-liter V8 eTorque system. About 150 vehicles may be at risk.
The eTorque system is a mild hybrid system that lets the vehicle partially power itself by converting captured energy from the braking system into electricity for the battery pack.
Instead of an alternator, the eTorque engine has a 48-volt battery-powered belt drive and a motor generator.
It provides 392 hp and 404 lb-ft of torque in the Wagoneer and 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque in the Ram 1500. Also, this engine has been discontinued for 2025.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating these models due to about 80 complaints about the vehicles losing power then shifting into park, and applying the emergency brake.
The official reason is listed as the loss of motive power due to electrical concerns causing the engine to shut down with an intermittent ability to restart. Suddenly coming to a stop like this can increase the risk of injuries and accidents, especially on the highway.
In some cases, a battery fault symbol appeared on the dash. A majority of complaints list that a low voltage condition is present. Perhaps, a problem with the electrical system or battery is preventing the powertrain from getting enough power.
But the NHTSA investigation is still in the early stages. These vehicles could be recalled based on what the investigation finds.
Stay tuned for updates about this 2022 Ram 1500 and Jeep Wagoneer problem. If there is a recall I will let you know. Also, if there is a recall, Stellantis will let you know via mail.
Last but not least, there are currently no known accidents or injuries related to this engine problem.
