Tata Motors is announcing its next all-new all-electric SUV on April 6. Tata is a growing Indian manufacturer that owns both Jaguar and Land Rover. A new concept like the one the company is teasing in its latest video could portend some of the tech or designs for the next Jaguar electric SUV or electric Land Rover.

Both of those luxury brands are looking to become all-electric in the next few years. Insiders are looking to Tata for hints as to what those electric SUVs and cars will look like, or be powered by, in a few years.

For several weeks Tata has teased its #DiscoverDifferent concepts

Tata has been touting its electric infrastructure efforts in Southeast Asia and its move to create more EVs. In parallel Jaguar and Land Rover also announced plans to build a battery plant and to add electric SUVs and cars to their lineups, with Jag saying it will be an all-electric brand by 2025.

The new Tata concept will be shown April 6

The new video shows an SUV concept that clearly shows a modern and futuristic design. It just gives hints of what the new SUV will look like. There is a wide LED strip that runs the length of the hood, angular lights and what looks like a rear-window spoiler. You can easily see the EV badge.

As Tata ramps up its electrification process, it’s likely that the new EV will share both technology and styling cues with the new Jaguars. Could it portend a new smaller EV Jaguar or Land Rover SUV?

What is Tata Motors?

The Tata Safari is the company's flagship SUV in India. It is a three-row six-passenger luxury SUV.

Tata Motors started in the 1940s making trains in India. Later the company started making commercial trucks and vans, before launching the tiny Tata Sierra SUV as a passenger car in the early 1990s. Since then it has made a variety of sedans and small SUVs that have sold well in India and Southeast Asia. It is now India’s largest auto company.

In 2008 Mumbai-based Tata acquired Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford Motor Company for $2.3 billion. Since then it revamped both brands’ lineups to create all-new brand identities and design language.

Over the years the company has formed operating agreements with Fiat, Daimler-Benz, Hyundai and others. Today its flagship SUV is the Tata Safari, which is a three-row six-passenger SUV.

While it made the Tata Nano, which was the cheapest new car in the world and sold for about $3,400, it also makes some of the most expensive. The new Jaguar F-Type R can easily reach an MSRP of $111,350.

All-electric Jags and Rovers are on their way

The new E-PACE Baracuta is a special version of Jaguar's SUV made with clothing designer Baracuta in England.

From 2025 Jaguar will become a pure-electric brand, and it is redesigning all of its cars and SUVs. The hottest Jaguar to is the Baracuta E-PACE, which is a fashion-branded version of the E-PACE SUV. The E-PACE is the company’s small SUV.

With Jaguars going all-electric soon, it makes sense that Tata would be developing technology that it can share across its brands.

Jaguar makes the E-PACE and F-PACE SUVs, as well as the F-TYPE sports car, and the I-PACE and XF sedans. The top dog of Jaguar’s SUV lineup is the 550-hp F-PACE SVR, which the company claims can hit 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. But it’s gasoline powered.

On the Land Rover side, the Range Rover and Defender are some of the most iconic SUVs ever built. The 2022 Range Rover starts at about $104,000 and the company promises a mild hybrid will join the lineup for 2023. You can order the new Rover with a V8, or as a hybrid with a V6. However, the company said that a new all-electric Range Rover will debut soon.
