Every 2021 Ram 1500 5.7-L Truck with eTorque Recalled
Ram has had an ongoing investigation into reports and warranty claims for the 2021 Ram 1500 equipped with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and eTorque hybrid system. The Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance group began its investigation in January. Owners report the V8 Hemi stalls, sometimes while driving.
What is the 2021 Ram 1500 recall over?
It determined that the powertrain control module software was faulty. So far, Ram has received 636 warranty claims, with 53 field reports filed to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It also reports one accident while the truck was driven, though no injuries were reported.
Under certain conditions, the improper calibration of the PCM results in an overly rich fuel mixture, effectively flooding the engine. New software will fix the issue. The 2021 Ram 1500 trucks from June 2020 to September 2021. That’s essentially the entire production of 2021 Ram 1500 pickups. Of those, 131,700 are part of this recall.
Are there other 2021 Ram 1500 recalls?
So far, this is the 10th recall for the 2021 Ram 1500 pickup. The recalls run the gamut from screen issues to fuel pump failures. The first one was issued at the beginning of 2021.
It was a serious safety issue where the brake pedal could separate from the master cylinder. Obviously, this results in a loss of brakes. Pushrod clips were coming loose from the pedal. Owners were notified not to drive their trucks until they received instructions from Ram.
Just a few days after the brake pedal recall, another recall was issued for 2021 Ram 1500 pickups over issues with the rearview cameras. This also required a software fix. It wasn’t until September that a series of recalls began.
The first was for incorrect emergency spare tires. Dealers replaced the tires at no charge. Then another recall came again related to the rear camera display for backover prevention. This was the second recall for this issue. In all, there were four separate recalls for this problem affecting 2021 Ram 1500 trucks.
How can you find more recall information?
In October 2021, fuel pump issues involving the 3.0-liter diesel engine prompted a recall. Trucks stalling were the initial issue, but the cause was too much fuel pressure resulting in pump failures.
The last recall before this latest one happened in December 2021, for tailgates coming open during driving. The cause was misaligned latching mechanisms. There were several reports of drivers losing their loads when the tailgates flew open. Dealers fixed the alignment and in some cases replaced the strikers for the latching mechanisms.
