Every Trim Level of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma Explained
It’s official; the 2024 Toyota Tacoma is here. And on paper, it looks like the redesigned Taco is going to be a home run. Specifically because this midsize truck is so versatile. There are eight 2024 Toyota Tacoma trim levels, and each one brings something unique to the table. So what’s the deal with this midsize pickup’s trim levels?
What are the trims of the Toyota Tacoma?
The 2024 Tacoma truck is available in eight trim levels, including a new TRD PreRunner and Trailhunter configurations. Now, most of the Toyota Tacoma trim levels are probably familiar to you.
The SR5, TRD Pro, and Limited options are still here. But the 2024 Toyota Tacoma is vastly different from its predecessor. We’ve already covered the general overview of the redesigned Taco pickup, so let’s do a quick trim breakdown on this new midsize truck.
SR trim
The Toyota Tacoma SR is still the base variant of this pickup truck. It can feel a bit basic compared to the other trims, but that might be right for a certain kind of consumer. It is available as either a Double Cab or something Toyota is calling the XtraCab. What is the Tacoma XtraCab?
If you know trucks, you know manufacturers have been moving away from two-door setups, but not Toyota. With a 2024 Toyota Tacoma XtraCab, you’ll have a two-door truck that feels like a throwback to simpler times. Add to that the optional six-speed manual transmission; you might be surprised that this is a 2024 truck.
SR5 trim
A step above the SR, the Tacoma SR5 brings more refinement to the table. The Double Cab model comes with multilink rear suspension, and that should add some comfort over the standard rear leaf springs.
Additionally, you get slightly more power from the iFORCE engine with 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Toyota is offering the six-speed manual here. You will have a truck that has 17-inch alloy wheels, though.
TRD PreRunner trim
It’s been some time since we’ve seen PreRunner badging on a Toyota, but it’s back. With the 2024 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner, you’ll see an electronically activated rear locking differential and RWD.
To add to the adventuring cred of this midsize truck, it does come standard with all-terrain tires. And even with 2WD, that should help in terms of capability.
TRD Sport trim
Available only as a Double Cab, the Tacoma TRD Sport is where the upgrades really start happening. You can opt for the i-FORCE MAX hybrid engine, which makes 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. Those are pretty impressive numbers for a pickup of this size.
Other notable features include the sport-tuned shock, hood scoop, and larger tires. Just like the 2023 Toyota Tacoma, you can get this package with the six-speed manual.
TRD Off-Road trim
The Tacoma TRD Off-Road can be viewed as the baby TRD Pro. It’s cheaper but still offers some legitimate off-road capability. A locking rear diff is standard, and you can get an optional front stabilizer bar disconnect.
Some other cool equipment includes skid plates and available 33-inch tires. If you want a midsize truck with 4×4 chops, this could be the Taco to look for.
Limited trim
Some folks want a midsize truck that feels comfortable and comes with good on-road characteristics. That’s the 2024 Toyota Tacoma Limited. The available Adaptive Variable Suspension and hybrid engine should be perks in some people’s eyes.
It looks like Toyota has made heated and cooled front seats standard as well. Much like other Tacoma pickups at this level, the non-hybrid and hybrid engine are offered depending on your needs and preference.
TRD Pro trim
I’ve got some sad news about the 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. You can no longer get this off-road truck with the manual transmission, at least for now. According to Car and Driver, it does retain the ruggedness you would expect from a TRD Pro.
The suspension has been improved, and it has a wider stance. You also have 2.5-inch Fox QS3 adjustable dampers and some other upgrades to help when you take the road less traveled.
Trailhunter trim
One of the biggest stories about the redesigned Tacoma is the new Trailhunter trim. This truck is made for folks who enjoy overlanding, and to me, it sounds like a TRD Pro on steroids.
Hot stamped steel skid plates, high-mount air intake, and 33-inch Goodyear Territory R/T tires should help you hunt those trails. But I do not expect this 2024 Toyota Tacoma trim level to come cheap.
