If you’re big in the electric vehicle (EV) space, you’ve probably heard of a new startup brand, Lucid Motors. This brand strongly focuses on luxury EV production, and what they have in store is quite impressive. For example, the Lucid Air is packed with cutting-edge technology features and knows how to perform. In fact, it’s the first EV that has a 500-mile range.

Peter Rawlinson joined the Lucid Motors team as CTO in 2013. In 2019, he became the CEO of the company. Before that, Rawlinson was the Model S chief engineer under Elon Musk. Sources have said Rawlinson has always wanted to one-up his former boss and create the best car in the world.

The current lineup of Lucid EV models

According to Car and Driver, there is currently only one model in the Lucid Motors lineup, which is the Lucid Air. There are four trims for drivers to choose from:

  • Air Pure – From $77,400
  • Air Touring – From $95,000
  • Air Grand Touring – From $139,000
  • Air Dream Edition – From $169,000

Lucid will also be releasing less expensive versions and developing an SUV, the Gravity.

Lucid Air performance & features

The Lucid Air has an official EPA range of up to 520 miles. If you’re running low, you won’t have to wait too long for a full charge. You can power up to 300 miles in about 20 minutes.

As far as the engine goes, you can choose single or dual-motors and a max horsepower of 1,111. That means the Lucid Air can travel from 0 to 60 in only 2.5 seconds. The Lucid Air is also loaded with the latest tech brought to you by DreamDrive Pro

All the important information you’ll need to know is right in front of you on the 34-inch floating Glass Cockpit. The Glass Canopy spans from the windshield to the roof. There are also heated and ventilated front seats with a massage feature, so all your commutes are relaxing.

Where Are Lucid Air cars made?

Lucid Motors was founded in Newark, California, near Silicon Valley. Lucid selected Casa Grande, Arizona, for its nearly 1-million-square-foot facility in 2016. In fact, it’s the first rural, dedicated electric vehicle factory located in North America.

Does Lucid have self-driving?

Yes, Lucid Air vehicles have a self-driving feature. The electronic driver-assist system is branded as DreamDrive. You can think of it as Lucid Motors’ version of Autopilot by Tesla.

Eugene Lee, senior director of driver-assist systems and autonomous driving at Lucid, said, “By prioritizing safety and updatability, DreamDrive also sets the stage for offering increasingly sophisticated driver-assistance features. We have ensured that the Lucid DreamDrive hardware and software platform not only offers a full suite of Level 2 features but is also Level 3 ready.”

Is Lucid Motors better than Tesla?

The question of which brand is better, well, that’s up to you to decide. The Tesla Model S Plaid is the fastest EV, but Lucid has big plans to change the luxury electric vehicle segment. Plus, the brand is making an excellent first impression. We’ll have to see what else Lucid has to offer in the near future.
