Everything You Want to Know About the 2024 Ford Ranger
After deciding to sell the old Ford Ranger here in the States, it looks like U.S. consumers will finally be getting a new midsize truck from the Blue Oval. The 2024 Ford Ranger is coming, and it will probably mean a lot of change for this pickup. And for the sake of Ford, hopefully, some renewed interest in the model.
When is the new Ford Ranger coming out?
Ford has not announced the exact date that its new midsize truck is being released, but it is expected to arrive in 2023. The 2024 Ranger has been long awaited, so once order books are opened, they might not remain open for that long. Current rumors point to 2024 Ford Ranger orders opening up in April.
Although Ford will be offering a diesel engine for the new Ranger in some markets, here in the United States, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine will probably be what powers this truck here in the States. If you are hoping for a new Ford Ranger with a V6, those hopes will likely be answered. The 2024 Ranger Raptor is set to come with a twin-turbo V6 on the global market.
In the United States, it is expected that the Raptor version of the Ranger will have that same engine. According to Ford Authority, it will likely produce 392 horsepower and 430 pound-foot of torque.
The 2024 Ranger is coming
It’s not here yet, but the 2024 Ford Ranger is coming. It will remain a midsize truck, sitting below the Ford F-150 and above the Maverick. In terms of the new interior, there will probably be some bigger touchscreen options. A 12.0-inch touchscreen has been rumored, much like what is found in the Mustang Mach-E.
As it stands, the 2023 Ranger can haul 1,905 lbs and tow up to 7,500 lbs. In order to make the new Ford Ranger more competitive with things like the Chevy Colorado, it is possible that the Blue Oval could improve those numbers to allow for more capability.
In terms of pricing, things are still pretty unclear. Ford has yet to fully announce the specifics of this midsize truck, at least for the U.S. market.
Will there be a hybrid Ranger?
Ford’s willingness to offer hybrid and electric trucks is no secret. The Ford Maverick comes with a standard hybrid engine, and the F-150 Lightning is a fully-electric pickup. On launch, it is not expected that the 2024 Ranger will have a hybrid engine. But that could definitely change in the coming years.
A Ford Ranger hybrid would help this midsize truck operate more efficiently. And the Maverick has certainly proved that folks are willing to spend money on a pickup with a hybrid powertrain.
One hope I have for the 2024 Ranger would be to get the manual transmission that is offered on the global market. But the likelihood of that happening is zero to none. The only new midsize trucks you can get with a manual are the Toyota Tacoma and Jeep Gladiator. And who knows how much longer that will be the case.
