No, you aren’t reading that wrong. A C8 Corvette daily driver just makes sense when you break it down. Thankfully, MotorBiscuit is doing just that with this 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 1LT Coupe in Rapid Blue. While you might know the C8 Corvette price, do you know what kind of real-world fuel economy this Chevrolet sports car gets?

Who decides what a daily driver needs to be, anyway? For the most part, it means a comfortable and fuel-efficient car, truck, or SUV. The C8 Corvette might lack some traditional “comfort” attributes, but it makes up for that in fun. After taking it around the town for a week, thanks to Peterson Auto Group, MotorBiscuit writer Braden Carlson found it surprisingly fuel efficient.

The fuel efficiency listed is 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Some Corvette owners report getting up to 30 mpg on basic daily driving. The C8 Corvette managed to get a 36.4 mpg average while cruising on the highway.

The 2022 Chevrolet C8 Corvette is a mid-engine sports car with a V8 and almost 500 hp. That’s not your typical daily driver, but 30 mpg is 30 mpg, no matter what you drive.

Is a C8 Corvette daily driver a bad idea? No, it actually might improve your daily driving

Do you love Costco and Sam’s Club? If your idea of fun is driving your sports car to Costco and taking home a bunch of pretzels, maybe the C8 Corvette sports car is not the right daily driver for you. There is room in the front trunk and room for some junk in the regular trunk, too.

“Ultimately when it boils down to the question, can you daily drive a C8 Corvette? The answer is yes. You absoluetly could and you would love every moment of it.”

Should you have a C8 daily driver? Why not? All realistic and adult decisions out the window, you should definitely have a C8 Corvette daily driver. Regarding the 2022 C8 Corvette price, the starting MSRP was $60,900. This one is listed at Peterson Auto Group for $101,995 with 2,245 miles. Don’t hate the player; hate the game.

More on that Chevrolet cylinder deactivation thing

An old press release from Chevrolet explains that a new Active Fuel Management (AFM) system can turn “V8 engines into V4s.” The C8 Corvette uses the same type of system, but more modern.

Chevrolet says, “Saving fuel can be as easy as shutting off engine cylinders when they aren’t needed. Active Fuel Management does exactly this by using sophisticated engine controls to deactivate four of the eight cylinders and reactivate them seamlessly on demand.” The cylinder deactivation in the 2022 C8 helps improve the fuel numbers on those regular daily drives. Chevrolet says it can improve fuel economy by up to 12%, but those numbers are not for the C8.

This is old hat by now, but it certainly helps make the C8 Corvette a good daily driver. There’s no shortage of fun when driving a 490-hp Corvette, and now it gets good fuel economy too. If you are struggling on your daily commute to the office, maybe you need a Corvette.
