We’re starting to get a little deeper into the new year and on our way to bigger and better things even though smaller trucks and SUVs are trending among automakers. The Nissan Frontier is among the group of smaller vehicles, so where is the 2020 model? We’re ready to check it out already.

What To Expect With The 2020 Nissan Frontier

A New Look

So far, based on the rumors and information we’ve seen, we can speculate that the 2020 Nissan Frontier will have the same sixteen-year-old exterior with some upgrades under the hood, including a new, more powerful engine.

On that note, the 2020 Nissan Frontier will get a bit of a facelift. The headlights and grill received a more modern look with side fenders for extra flair. The clamshell hood has a more aerodynamic design and three air intake vents.

The interior between the 2019 and 2020 models probably isn’t changing much. The Frontier still only has a standard 5” display screen and a slightly outdated chunky dash with large knobs.

Lower base models of the Frontier will have basic cloth seats, but you can upgrade to luxurious leather seats.

Also, on an exciting note, we can expect an exterior and interior redesign for 2021.

More Power

The 2019 Frontier had a 2.5-L four-cylinder V6 engine with 152 horsepower. This engine is available as a five-speed automatic option and a six-speed manual option.

Along with 93 new parts, the 2020 Frontier is receiving an upgrade with a 3.8-liter V6 engine that pumps out 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft torque. This engine is replacing the older five-speed automatic one with a nine-speed. This powerful upgrade brings a fair amount of modernization to this truck.

Along with more power, we can also speculate better fuel economy and faster acceleration. The 2019 Frontier has a disappointing 19 mpg in the city and only 23 mph on the highway. One massive clue for a better fuel economy is the fact that the new V6 engine will be fuel injected.

As the Nissan Frontier continues to receive modern upgrades, we can expect more options. There will be a standard bed along with a long bed option as well as AWD, rear-wheel drive, 2X4, and 4×4 options across trim levels, including the King Cab, Crew Cab, and Crew Cab Pro 4X.

Better Features

Again, the Nissan Frontier is finally joining other trucks of this century with long-awaited tech advancements. The 2020 model will have a push start button, power locks, a tilt steering wheel, and a leather shifter knob.

This truck will also sit pretty on 16” wheels. Lower trim models will have steel wheels, while higher-end options will have alloy wheels.

When Will We Learn More?

Unfortunately, we are still waiting to learn more about the 2020 Nissan Frontier as it’s being built in Tenessee. The 2021 model will be made in Mississippi as well. So, at least while we wait, we can depend on American manufacturing.

We have no knowledge of the 2020 Nissan Frontier’s prices or release date, but they better get a move on before the 2021 model is expected to hit the market. It’s also a tough decision between purchasing the 2020 model or waiting for the 2021 version to hit the truck lots.

On the one hand, the 2021 Nissan Frontier will probably have a lot of technical and mechanical advancements to better compete with other trucks, but it will probably be more expensive. On the other hand, you might be able to get a pretty modern, capable truck for a low price with the 2020 Nissan Frontier.
