Bring back affordable beater trucks! Truck prices are getting out of control with no end in sight. Adding maintenance costs on top of the MSRP can quickly become overbearing. It doesn’t help that one expensive truck also has the highest maintenance costs.

One expensive truck has the highest maintenance costs

The expensive truck with the highest maintenance costs is the Ram 1500. It could cost roughly $4,537 to maintain over five years and $17,677 to maintain this truck over 10 years.

That’s considerably more than the average cost of about $10,000 to keep your truck on the road for 10 years.

Plus,  the 2024 Ram 1500 already starts at $41,415, including the $1,995 destination fee. To make matters worse, dealership fees aren’t included with this price.

Unfortunately, the Ram 1500 has a 54.80% chance of experiencing a severe failure during the first 10 years of its life, which is 33.30% worse than the average, according to CarEdge.

The Ford F-150 costs $2,718 to maintain over five years and $17,77 to maintain over 10 years. The 2024 F-150 starts at $38,765, including the $1,995 destination fee.

It costs $2,647 to maintain the Chevrolet Silverado for five years and 10,003 for 10 years. The 2024 Silverado starts at $38,795, including the $1,995 destination fee.

The Toyota Tundra costs $1,916 to maintain for five years and $6,738 for 10 years. The 2024 Tundra starts at $41,815, including the $1,850 destination fee.

But having the highest maintenance costs doesn’t exactly mean that the Ram 1500 is unreliable. J.D.Power gave the 2024 model a reliability ranking of 88 out of 100, which is great.

Scores between 81 and 90 are above average and scores between 91 and 100 are best.  The 2023 F-150 earned a 78, the 2024 Silverado got an 80, and the 2024 Tundra earned a 78.

Also, the average Ram 1500 truck is expected to last between 250,000 to 300,000 miles. Some examples have easily surpassed 350,000 miles.
