Edmunds says the most popular 2022 Toyota Sequoia trim is the TRD Sport model. Out of six available options, the second cheapest is the one consumers usually buy. Usually, the most affordable model is the most desirable, especially for expensive full-size SUVs. However, most people are willing to spend a little extra for the TRD Sport over the SR5 base model; why is that?

Firstly, the SR5 base model starts at $51,995, while the TRD Sport costs $54,710. Although more expensive, it isn’t too big of a difference compared to other trim levels. For example, the next step up is the Limited model, which starts north of $61,000. Moreover, the base model comes well-equipped, so adding the TRD Pro equipment on top of it makes just under $55K feel like a bargain.

According to Edmunds, the SR5 base model is well-equipped. Every version of the 2022 Toyota Sequoia has a 5.7-liter V8 engine under the hood. In addition, the SR5 comes with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights/foglights, a sunroof, three-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry/ignition, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a seven-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and more.

The Toyota suite of standard safety features and driver aids bolsters the base model. This suite has a pre-collision system, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and more.

On top of all of these things, the most popular 2022 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro gains even more. For example, 20-inch TRD Sport wheels, Sport-tuned Bilstein dampers, stiffer anti-roll bars, second-row captain’s chairs, black exterior trim, roof rack, and badges. It’s easy to see why this is the most popular version of the full-size SUV since it comes with so many features for the price.

Although it seems like consumers are buying an excellent trim level, experts don’t recommend it. First, Edmunds suggests purchasing the base model SR5. However, the publication also offers the optional Premium package. Leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power-adjustable passenger seat, a power-folding third row, and an upgraded audio system with navigation come with the Premium package. As a result, the SR5 is well-equipped, minus the off-road niceties included with the TRD Pro model.

On the other hand, Car and Driver nearly agree completely with Edmunds. This publication recommends the same SR5 base model; however, not with the Premium package. Instead, C/D likes optional four-wheel drive for $3,255. It says the Premium package’s content isn’t worth the entry price. Unfortunately, it’s the only way to get things like heated seats for a reasonably low price.

In conclusion, experts think the best 2022 Toyota Sequoia trim is the base model SR5. Additionally, one considers the Premium package essential, while the other thinks it’s overpriced. However, consumers mostly buy the TRD Pro trim, which is even more expensive than the SR5 model. Although it is well-equipped, experts don’t think most people will use the off-road-oriented features or that the black exterior trim is worth the price. As a result, experts don’t recommend the most popular 2022 Toyota Sequoia trim.
