According to Edmunds, the most popular 2022 Ford Ranger trim is the Lariat model. Out of three available options, the most expensive trim level is selling the best. That’s not common, so there must be something excellent about the most expensive version of the pickup. The Ranger Lariat will cost you $37,525, while the XL base model starts at just $29,660. Why are people choosing the fully loaded trim over the most affordable options?

First, the Lariat version of the Ranger comes with just about all the features from the XL and XLT trims. However, it also gains those from the 302A package, plus much more. Features like remote ignition, power-folding mirrors, a manual-sliding rear window, and heated/power front seats are standard. In addition, the Ranger Lariat has LED headlights, leather upholstery, plus lower-tier features like Wi-Fi, cruise control, blind-spot monitor, and more.

Experts like Car and Driver and Edmunds agree on the best overall 2022 Ford Ranger trim. Both publications recommend buying the XLT trim, which is the mid-level version. Moreover, Edmunds thinks the Ranger XLT is the trim to buy because it has the right amount of features for the price. While the base XL trim doesn’t provide enough features, the XLT variant is a significant upgrade without a considerable price increase. Furthermore, it also gains access to optional packages that offer even more convenience and tech items.

Similarly, C/D recommends the same 2022 Ford Ranger XLT. Starting at $33,485, this model is desirable, but even more with the additional available options. C/D suggests adding four-wheel drive, the FX4 off-road suspension, a bed liner, and the 302A package. On top of that, buyers can get the Technology package which contains front parking sensors, a navigation system, and adaptive cruise control.

In conclusion, two prominent experts agree the Ford Ranger XLT is the best trim. While it isn’t the fully loaded version, it provides nearly as many features and options for a lower price. However, consumers haven’t agreed with experts so far. Instead, they usually buy the top-of-the-line Lariat trim. They’re likely attracted to the additional features and 501A package only available at the top of the lineup.

An upgraded 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, remote ignition, automatic wipers, and a universal garage door opener are desirable features. Plus, none of the Ranger trims are too much more expensive than any others. Most of the value and cost will come from whichever optional packages you choose. There’s even the Tremor off-road package for XLT and Lariat trims, which turns the Ranger into an off-roading machine.
