Reliability is always a concern when purchasing a new SUV for your family. One thing that drives many buyers to a particular model is the hope that it will last a long time with very few major problems. Automakers like Lexus and Toyota are well-known for producing reliable models that last a long time. As a result, full-size SUVs like the new Lexus LX are rated as highly reliable for the new model year. In a surprising turn of events, experts say the 2022 Cadillac Escalade is just as reliable.

The experts at J.D. Power use the experience of many current and previous owners to determine reliability. Moreover, the publication’s quality and reliability score “measures the level of defects, malfunctions, and design flaws experienced by vehicle owners.” Furthermore, the latest 2022 Lexus LX SUV received an 83 out of 100 for this category. That makes it one of the better-rated vehicles overall for reliability and easily one of the best full-size SUV models.

Additionally, this score was good enough to rank the Lexus very high on JDP’s list. It’s second-place on the rankings for large premium SUV models, ahead of notable models like the Infiniti QX80, BMW X7, Land Rover Range Rover, and Jeep Grand Wagoneer. We think it ended in second instead of first for a few significant reasons. One is the driving experience rating, which fell short at just 77 out of 100. Although average, it’s not enough to beat the top-ranked model, the 2022 Cadillac Escalade.

The 2022 Cadillac Escalade is just as reliable

In comparison with the new Lexus LX, the 2022 Cadillac Escalade is just as reliable. Using JDP’s rankings according to consumers, both models received the same score for quality and reliability. With both earning 83 out of 100 possible points in this category, it mostly came down to other factors to decide which model was superior overall. For example, the driving experience with the Escalade is an advantage over the Lexus SUV. It beat the LX’s score by eight total points.

Cadillac’s full-size luxury SUV finished just one point ahead to claim the title of J.D. Power’s best overall large premium SUV. A few things owners told JDP they like about the Escalade are using the voice assistant, plentiful storage, and the engine’s power. The latter is no surprise, as the base Escalade uses a 6.2-liter V8 producing 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, it’s standard throughout the lineup, but an optional diesel alternative is available.

Although the Lexus is reliable, it could be more or less reliable than JDP’s results show. For the 2022 model year, the Lexus LX received a complete overhaul. With a redesign like this, there’s no telling how different the SUV will be from one year to the next. As the publication mentions on its site, use the ratings with caution as the redesigned vehicle could be more or less reliable than its predecessor.

In conclusion, it’s impressive that the 2022 Cadillac Escalade is as reliable as the new Lexus LX. Although J.D. Power’s data is from previous model years, the Lexus LX is well-known for being a reliable and long-lasting model. An expensive luxury full-size SUV like the Escalade lasting as long or being just as reliable is outstanding for buyers of this popular model. Does this news make you more or less interested in buying a new Cadillac?
