What’s one thing you don’t want to do while camping? Get lost! But that’s why options like the Subaru Crosstrek have built-in navigation systems to help you stay on track in rural areas. However, if you own a Subaru SUV you may have noticed that Starlink doesn’t always work.

Subaru Starlink is a standard feature with every Subaru SUV. It’s a free package that’s designed to make life easier. You get a three-year trial before a subscription is required. You can pay $350 for another three years of service.

The app is used to connect your multimedia, has navigation, adds extra safety features, allows remote vehicle control, and will tell you where your vehicle is located.

But there’s a problem with relying on the system for navigation and emergency contact services in rural areas because the system doesn’t work very well in areas without at least 4G coverage.

So, if people get in accidents or need directions while off the grid, they may need to resort to other devices and means of contact.

According to some users who live out in the country, their iffy cell phone signal prevents Starlink from remote starting and making emergency calls from their driveway.

Other drivers have struggled with Starlink navigation failing to load, the screen freezing or going completely grey, a malfunctioning radio that cuts in and out, an unresponsive infotainment system, and a blank rearview camera.

There’s actually a lawsuit alleging that 2019 – 2023 Subaru SUV models were equipped with faulty Starlink systems.

The lawsuit claims that Subaru knew about the issues listed above, but hasn’t done enough to fix things. There are no recalls, repairs, replacements, or software updates for Starlink.

Some owners went to dealerships for replacements, but new units had the same problems. Others faced a long waiting time because the part was back-ordered.

As the system freezes, cuts out, becomes unresponsive, stops playing audio, and blocks the backup camera, the risk of accidents or injuries increases, especially if roadside assistance can’t be accessed.

There was a similar lawsuit related to 2018 Subaru models and it had a 6.25 million settlement. Subaru could have trouble in court again soon because the same problems are still being complained about.
