Famous Green Cars for St. Patrick’s Day
Mention a green car and many people will start to think of fuel-efficient, electric, or alternative fuel vehicles. But, this post doesn’t have anything to do with that. In appreciation for all things green on St. Patrick’s day, this post will cover green colored cars that were made famous for their on-screen appearances.
Bullitt
To start this list off right. This car is considered to have taken part in arguably the greatest on-screen chase seen ever created. The Bullitt Mustang was driven by Steve McQueen. It is a 1968 Mustang GT. In the movie, the Mustang was shown smoking tires in reverse, jumping hills, and taking fast corners while the tires screeching for mercy.
Gran Torino
In the movie by the same name, this 1972 Ford Grand Torino was proudly owned by a former factory worker. The vehicle didn’t do much in the movie aside from looking good and give a little brawn to the machismo that is Clint Eastwood. None-the-less, this muscular automobile definitely left an impression on automotive enthusiasts.
National Lampoon’s Vacation
The Griswald family wants to take a vacation to Wally World. They do so in the Family Queen Wagon Truckster. It was a modified version of a 1979 Ford LTD Wagon. The modifications bordered on ludicrous. Extra lights, wood paneling, a dog leash on the bumper… you’ll understand if you watch the movie.
Thomas Crown Affair
In the 1999 remake of the Thomas Crown Affair, the lead actor, Pierce Brosnan, is seen driving A 1967 Mustang GTA convertible that was converted to handle off-road duties. Sounds like a bit of blasphemy to take Mustang off-road, doesn’t it? But, the car pulls off the look. It’s more like an impressive green monster that you can’t stop looking at. The cringing turns to fascination.
Richard Rawlings, from the Fast-N-Loud television series, has a faithful recreation of the Thomas Crown Affair Mustang. He’s proudly shown it a few times in the show and has even tried taking it to auction to see what he could get for it. He must not have received the bids he was looking for because the car showed up in later episodes again.
The Fast and The Furious
The Fast and the Furious franchise had a green 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse in it. The car was driven by the now-departed actor, Paul Walker. The vehicle helped elevate the automotive modification industry to the grand level that is the big screen. The film franchise itself is still putting out sequels over a decade later.
Days of Thunder
The main character is Cole Trickle, played by Tom Cruise. As a NASCAR driver, he pushes the edge throughout the movie in this NASCAR spec Chevrolet Lumina. It’s green and yellow, but the car is fast, does it’s fair share of rubbing and gets you on the edge of your seat.
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is a comedy with Steve Martin and John Candy as the lead actors. The movie also starred a green 1986 Chrysler Town and Country convertible. Much like the National Lampoon’s Queen Family Wagon Truckster mentioned before, this vehicle was modified with wood paneling and looked absurd.
