Rivian’s electric truck’s top speed may not be mind-blowing, but its acceleration rate is insane. The R1T Launch Edition can go from 0-60 miles per hour in about 3.3 seconds. That’s quicker than a Ram 1500 TRX.
The R1T Launch Edition is a performance pickup truck that rivals the quickest trucks ever made. Best of all, agility isn’t its only strength. The automaker is marketing its new pickup as an adventure truck designed to create unique experiences for drivers on the road less traveled.
The Rivian R1T is made for adventure

The Rivian R1T is specifically designed for off-road aventuring. It uses an adjustable air suspension that gives the truck up to 14.5 inches of ground clearance. Rivian offers 34.0 inch tires to make the pickup even more capable. The R1T Launch Edition makes 835 horses and 908 lb-ft of torque, so it has more than enough power to get out of a jam.
Rivian’s electric pickup truck is only available in the $80,000 Launch Edition trim thus far, but it will be available in Explore and Adventure trims. The Explore starts at $67,500. The Adventure trim starts at $73,000.
Is the Rivian R1T the best electric truck?
The Rivian R1T is America’s first electric pickup, but is it America’s next electric truck? Its greatest competition thus far is the Ford F-150 Lightning.
The Blue Oval’s electric pickup truck boasts amazing utility because of its electric powertrain. More importantly, it’s affordable and that gives it a huge edge against the R1T. The first batch of F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks were eligible for the full federal tax incentive. That brings the base model Pro trim’s price to $32,474. The R1T’s base model is much more expensive.
Rivian has produced the most capable electric truck thus far, but it just isn’t accessible to most average Americans. The Ford F-150 Lightning has a better chance at becoming the best in its vehicle segment.
