What Is the Fastest Car Chevy Ever Made?
Chevrolet has been making vehicles for over a century and has a particular legacy when it comes to speed. The automaker has created some of the fastest cars through its iconic Corvette lineup, but other models have also broken speed records. The Bow Tie brand continues to innovate in this regard. Indeed, the fastest Chevy is set to hit the streets next year.
The Corvette is a defining part of Chevy’s history
Any conversation about the fastest Chevy cars inevitably includes the Corvette.
The automaker has successfully built the Corvette as a brand since the mid-1950s. Inspired by European style and named after naval warships, the model was introduced to fill the sports car–shaped hole in Chevrolet’s lineup and has since grown to become a leader in luxury sports cars. Even the most casual car fan associates the Vette with blistering speed.
But just because the Corvette dominates discussions of the fastest Chevy vehicles doesn’t mean other models haven’t reached incredible speeds. CarHP reports that the fastest muscle car in Chevrolet’s catalog is the 2017 Camaro ZL1.
This Camaro packs a 6.2L supercharged V8 engine harnessing 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. Extra-wide tires, updated brakes, and a performance exhaust also contribute to the car’s considerable output. It touts a top speed of 198 mph and can rush from 0 to 60 in 3.4 seconds.
The fastest Corvettes ever
That some older models remain among the fastest Corvettes ever made is impressive, but the quickest models unsurprisingly debuted in the past few years.
Chevrolet updated the Stingray model’s design in 2020 by implementing a mid-engine layout and improved suspension. It has a 6.2-liter V8 DI engine generating 490 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. An optional Z51 package bumps the specs to 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. Chevrolet claims the Stingray has a top speed of 194 mph and a 0-to-60 time of just 2.9 seconds.
The 2023 Corvette Z06 is another quick car. Its 5.5-liter V8 engine makes 670 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, allowing the Z06 to rev up to 8,600 rpm, about 2,000 more than the Stingray. When equipped with the Z07 package, the Z06 can hit a top speed of 186 mph and roar from 0 to 60 in 2.6 seconds, making it the fastest-accelerating Chevy vehicle ever — until now.
Those cars are incredible feats of engineering, but they can’t compete with the 2024 Corvette E-Ray.
Will the 2024 E-Ray blow away all previous Vettes?
The E-Ray represents another creative leap in supercar design. It features the first hybrid powertrain in a Corvette, combining a 6.2-liter V8 engine, a 160-hp electric motor on the front axles, and a 1.1-kWh battery pack. These three power sources produce 655 hp and 595 lb-ft of torque.
Chevrolet claims the E-Ray can zoom from 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds and cover a quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds, making it the fastest Corvette ever. The supercar’s top speed is said to be over 180 mph.
The 2024 E-Ray offers three trims: 1LZ, 2LZ, and 3LZ. Pricing starts at $104,295, with convertible versions costing an extra $7,000. The E-Ray is set to hit dealerships in late 2023.
