When it comes to choosing the right pickup truck, a lot of factors come into play. Towing capacity, payload, torque, horsepower, and fuel economy are all considered. With so many trucks on the market, it’s hard to determine which one best suits your needs, and wallet.

Most of us don’t need excessive speed for working around the farm or getting to the construction site. A truck as fast as lightning that can go from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds may seem impractical, but it sure is fun!

Check out some of the fastest Dodge Ram pickup trucks to ever hit the highways.

Dodge Ram SRT-10

Every once in a blue moon a workhorse comes along that takes your breath away. You may not need that truck, but you sure do want it. That truck was the 2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10 sport pickup truck.

Designed by Daimler, Chrysler’s Performance Vehicle Operations team, it is one of the fastest performance pickup trucks ever made. SRT stands for Street and Racing Technology, and that it did deliver. Engineers used extensive wind tunnel testing to enhance performance on this super-fast ride. They utilized an aerodynamic package with high-performance wheels and braking systems.

The Dodge Ram SRT-10 was a Viper powered beast offering high-output engine performance. It had a huge Chrysler 8.3-liter Viper V10 engine that achieved a maximum power of 500 hp and up to 525 lb-ft of torque. This truck was able to hit top speeds of 155 mph, capable of running a 13.2-second quarter mile. It went from 0-60 mph in an incredible 4.9 seconds. It also offered the same six-speed manual transmission used in the high-performance Viper vehicle.

The SRT-10 was a limited edition, with only 9,527 models released between 2004-2006. Dodge exceeded truck performance expectations with this one-of-a-kind model. It is the fastest Dodge Ram truck ever produced.

World’s fastest production pickup truck

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the Dodge Ram SRT-10 is the “World’s Fastest Production Pickup Truck”. In 2004, NASCAR driver, Brendan Gaughan, reached a speed of 154.587 mph in the SRT-10.

The truck was not modified or enhanced in any way. According to the manufacturer, it came directly off the production line before it hit the tracks at the Daimler Chrysler proving grounds to set the record. This world record is also certified by the Sports Car Club of America.

Dodge Ram R/T

The Dodge Ram R/T (Road/Track) sport pickup truck is not much slower than the SRT-10. It is considered to be one of the fastest pickup trucks around. The stock 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine has an eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission and 3.92 rear gear ratio, achieving 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds.

The truck offers 395 hp and 410 lb-ft torque. It is a super-fast, powerful pickup truck. Unfortunately, the only way to get your hands on the 2019 model is to cross the border. The continuation of the R/T in the crew cab or regular cab 4×4 configuration is currently only available in Mexico.

Ram 1500

The Ram 1500 is the backbone of the Ram truck line. The 2019 model was awarded Truck Trend Pickup of the Year. It is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine with 305 hp. The 1500 is one of the fastest pickups on the market today, being able to go from 0 to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds. It offers a steady output of 269 lb-ft torque. Highway driving is rated at 25 mpg, while city driving is 17 mpg.

There is an option of getting a 5.7-liter V8 engine that provides 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft torque. This engine is a better option for drivers wanting to haul a boat or trailer, as it offers a towing capacity of up to 10,000 pounds.

Ram trucks are built to withstand the test of time, winning performance and safety awards year after year. The fastest Dodge Ram pickup trucks of yesterday were a stepping stone for the high-end pickup trucks of today.
