We all know how fast electric vehicles can be. A combination of AWD, four electric motors, and instantaneous torque leads to stunning 0-60 times. So, we thought it would be important to put those crazy numbers into perspective via the Tesla Model S Plaid and the Porsche Taycan Turbo S. Porsche and Tesla make two of the fastest “budget” EVs on the market, and they can eat supercars for breakfast.

1. The Tesla Model S Plaid EV hits 60 faster than Koenigsegg’s Jesko

First, the raw data. The Porsche Taycan Turbo S costs $185,000 MSRP and runs a 2.4 second 0-60 time. The Tesla Model S Plaid EV will hit 60 mph in 2.1 seconds and run you $131,190. Now for the first supercar, rather, megacar as Koenigsegg likes to call it, that these two can beat to 60 mph. The Koenigsegg Jesko costs $3 million, and it’s basically Bullet Bill for rich people. A 2.5 seconds 0-60 time makes the Jesko feel aged and conventional compared to our EV benchmarks.

2. The Porsche Taycan Turbo S EV is faster to 60 than a McLaren P1

Let’s keep going with another supercar. The McLaren P1 was at one point, the fastest car anyone had ever seen do a 1/4 mile drag race. But despite its $1.15 million price tag and 2.6 second 0-60 time, both the Tesla Model S Plaid and the Porsche Taycan Turbo S EV are faster for less money.

3. A BMW M5 CS isn’t faster than the fastest electric cars

Now let’s make things a little more competitive for the dinosaur killers. The BMW M5 CS is the most powerful M Car ever made. And, at $142,995 it’s priced a little closer to our EV benchmarks. Unfortunately for the M5, its 627 hp has nothing on the two 700+ hp EVs, and it takes 2.9 seconds to hit 60 mph. That’s almost a full second slower than the Plaid.

4. Not even the Audi RS6 Avant stands a chance

At a bare minimum, the Audi RS6 Avant has the advantage of practialtiy over the Tyacan and the Plaid. But even 690 hp and AWD can help the $120,000 RS6 hit 60 in less than 3.1 seconds. While our two benchmark EVs may not deliver a similarly visceral driving experience to any of these supercars, wagons, and sedans, they do have speed going for them. Maybe think twice the next time your local Tesla Bro wants a drag race.
