Jeep already has 40,000 orders for its all-new 2024 Avenger EV in Europe, which is great, except we don’t get it in America. It is one of the best-looking modern Jeeps yet, so why isn’t it available here? It is selling so well that it has padded overall Jeep sales by over a third, which is some feat. 

Jeep’s goal in Europe is to have an EV-only lineup by 2030, while it says it plans on 50% EV sales in the U.S. by then. So, with all of these EV glory plans, why isn’t Jeep selling the Avenger here? A hint at how Jeep buyers would take to a more environmentally and economical Jeep is the 4xe hybrid Wrangler. 

Is the Jeep Avenger’s size why it isn’t sold in the U.S.?

Those hybrids represent almost 50% of all Wrangler sales. We suspect that the reason Jeep is being cautious (possibly too much so) with Avenger consideration in the U.S. is its size. The closest to anything Jeep makes here in terms of size is the Renegade.

But the proportions of the Avenger give it a much more substantial look. It is 160.7 inches long, with a 100.9-inch wheelbase. The Renegade is longer by seven inches but with a virtually identical wheelbase to the Avenger. And just as a final comparison, the Compass is a foot longer than the Avenger.  

Is the Avenger the same size as the Renegade?

So, while it is a better-looking SUV overall with great proportions, it is barely smaller than the Renegade. While it seemed to be a sales hit when first appearing in 2015, with 100,000 sold yearly in 2016 through 2018, sales have fallen substantially. Last year, Jeep sold just 27,551 Renegades. But that is to be expected with an aging vehicle. 

So maybe the apprehension is due to the Avenger’s size. But that sure didn’t hinder Renegade sales for many years. And it wasn’t an EV or even a hybrid until 2020. 

How much does a Jeep Avenger cost?

At a base price of $43,500, it squares up with a 2024 Toyota 4Runner but well above a 2024 Honda CR-V at $29,500. But these comparisons are apples and oranges. And they’re moot because the Avenger isn’t available here, anyway, as we’ve said.

So, instead, the U.S. is getting the Jeep Recon in 2025. And right after it comes the premium Wagoneer S, also an EV. It will come with a 400-mile range and 600 hp. 

As for the Avenger, it also comes with a PHEV version. Sales of the hybrid versus the EV are about 50-50. According to Automotive News Europe, where Jeep offers a model as both an EV and hybrid, EV sales continue to eat away at the hybrid numbers. With that, we may see Jeep dropping all gas engines sooner than 2030.
