Fastest SUV Made Today? Here’s the Brabus 900 Rocket Edition
This thing is a monster. The Brabus 900 Rocket Edition is now the “fastest street-legal SUV in the world” according to Brabus. At 205 mph, we can’t argue with that. But if you want one you better hurry.
Brabus starts with a Mercedes GLE Coupe
Based on the Mercedes GLE Coupe, the aftermarket power house will make only 25 examples. But typically with exclusivity comes a high price. In this case, we’re talking a $447,407 high price.
The whole package revolves around the Mercedes V8. It now packs almost 4.5-liters with twin turbochargers. New forged pistons fit larger holes, along with longer forged rods. A billet crankshaft, high-pressure pumps, and larger downpipes increase the throws and exhaust.
Brabus breathes on the V8 for 888 hp and 922 lb-ft of torque
Along with these hardware changes, there is also some software tweaking. All of these modifications result in 888 hp with 922 lb-ft of torque. Curiously, torque is capped at 774 lb-ft “to protect the driveline.” All of that power is transmitted to a 4MATIC+ drive system and nine-speed automatic transmission. Combined, the 900 Rocket Edition magic gets 0-62 mph times down to 3.2 seconds, and that top speed of 205 mph.
The 23-inch Monoblock Y Platinum Edition wheels and Continental 295/30 ZR23 front and 335/30 ZR23 rear tires are only standard rolling stock. You can also opt for 24-inch Monoblock Z Platinum Edition wheels with exposed-carbon aero discs. An air suspension system can hunker down the Coupe. Vented and cross-drilled carbon-ceramic disc brakes are 15.7-inches in diameter.
Besides the added power there are visuals inside and out to distinguish this SUV
But there are plenty of visuals to enhance the power package on the exterior. A carbon fiber grille, front splitter, fender extensions, three-piece rear spoiler, diffuser, and other carbon bits all add to the aggressive looks. The titanium/carbon exhaust tips peek out of the rear. They cap a stainless steel exhaust system.
Inside the cabin, the customer can have any color and style of leather with Alcantara. Noble wood and carbon fiber trim enhance the searing red accents that definitely stand out. And all of this and a three-year/62,000-mile warranty from Brabus, too.
