This Is the Fastest V8 Sports Sedan Under $50,000
A $50,000 budget can go a long way, but if you need a car with four doors that seats five people and don’t want to sacrifice precious speed, there’s really only one solution. Dodge sells the 2021 Charger with a handful of trims, starting at $31,125 going all the way up to $80,000. Thankfully there’s something for everybody within the Dodge Charger lineup, and that includes the fastest sedan under $50,000 as the Scat Pack trim. If you don’t mind breaking the $50,000 barrier, there’s always Audi, BMW, and Mercedes, but for this price point, nothing beats the Dodge Charger Scat Pack, and it’s not even close.
The 2021 Dodge Charger Scat Pack has horsepower for days
Underneath the Charger Scat Pack’s hood is a beating 6.4-liter Hemi V8 pumping 485 horsepower to the rear wheels. That’s enough to propel the car to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and top off the car at 175 mph. The Charger only comes with an automatic transmission, but owners generally don’t seem to mind. It doesn’t end there, however. For about $6,000 more, you can have the Scat Pack Widebody. Where the base Scat Pack has baby 245mm tires, the Widebody edition allows big-boy 305.
Suspension, brakes, and wheels
It’s in the name. Dodge outfitted the Scat Pack Widebody with fender flares to accommodate the big tires. The result is a slightly enthusiastic and bubbly exterior. That teamed with the Hemi sort of creates a 20-pound-sledge-wielding Minnie Mouse attitude, but it won’t matter from the driver’s seat. Various driving modes allow the driver to set the car up for whatever challenge it’s about to face. Adaptive competition suspension, Brembo six-piston brakes, and forged aluminum wheels complete the Widebody ensemble.
2021 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Widebody is in its own class
Cadillac’s V8-equipped CT5-V is next up in terms of competition against the Charger Scat Pack, but it’s far removed from a dead heat. The CT5-V comes with a 3-liter twin-turbo V6 managing 360 horsepower sent to the rear wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. With all that kit, it gets to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, completing the quarter-mile in about the same time as the Charger. Both cars cost about the same. Beyond the Cadillac, you’ll have to pay thousands more to come close to the Charger’s performance level.
Is the 2021 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Widebody worth getting?
The Dodge Charger Scat Pack sports a cozy interior bound in leather. The Cockpit sits isolated, but the controls are close to the driver’s hands, whether they’re on the steering wheel or on the gearshift. It’s comfortable, fast, and affordable. If you’re looking for a fast sedan and have $48,800 burning a hole in your hit pocket, you won’t come across anything faster for the time being. The Charger is absolutely worth it.
