What Features Are Included in the 2022 Ram 1500 Southfork Edition?
All Stellantis brands recently released information about their 2022 model year cars, including the 2022 Ram 1500. While other brands have announced refreshes and redesigns for their vehicles, Ram announced that it would bring back the Southfork Edition for the 1500. Here’s a look at all the new, cool features that Ram is putting on the 2022 Ram 1500 Southfork Edition.
What is the Southfork Edition anyway?
Automakers love making unique edition cars that are themed after something, and that’s the case with the Southfork Edition. As MotorTrend wrote, Ram debuted the original Southfork Edition of the 1500 in 2017. As Texans or folks who are good at geography might know, the Southfork Edition was named after an area in Texas. Unsurprisingly, this particular edition Ram truck was also exclusively sold in Texas for the 2018 model year.
It was a $52,000 truck at the time, and as such, it came with a lot of luxury features. For example, there was an 8.4-inch touch screen display, which was a big screen back then. Plus, since it’s a luxury truck, there’s a lot of leather and suede everywhere. And, of course, since it was technically a part of the Laramie Longhorn trim, there’s a lot of Longhorn-related badging everywhere.
It was only sold in the 2018 model year, but Ram thinks that now’s as good of a time as any to bring it back. There’s a lot of changes, though, including with its name. It’s no longer officially called the Laramie Longhorn Southfork Edition. Instead, it’s going to be called the Limited Longhorn Southfork Edition.
The new features of the 2022 Ram 1500 Southfork Edition
Other than a name change, the Southfork Edition also gets plenty of luxury features. According to Mopar Insiders, the 2022 version will have a lot of leather and suede in the interior, like the original Southfork Edition. It’ll have leather bucket seats and a suede door bolster that has a leather bolster insert. The rest of the interior will also have the Mountain Brown color scheme.
Furthermore, the Southfork Edition is also about practicality. As Mopar Insiders wrote, it has quite a few features that folks will love, including a deployable bed step, adjustable tie-down hooks, and all-terrain tires on 20-inch aluminum wheels. On top of that, the Southfork Edition will also have a multi-function tailgate, which should be practical and fun to use.
As far as power goes, Mopar Insiders said that folks would be able to choose any of the four powertrain options available on the regular 1500. As such, Southfork Edition owners should use their truck for whatever they need to use it for. Overall, the Southfork Edition costs about $56,000, roughly a $20,000 premium over the regular 1500.
The 2022 Ram 1500 got updated, too
By and large, Ram didn’t update the 1500 too much, as the current generation is relatively new. But, Ram did give some updates to the 1500. For example, many trims now get the Uconnect 5 infotainment suite as standard. Uconnect 5 is an upgrade in many ways, as it has more memory and access to over-the-air updates.
Furthermore, every Ram now gets the Raw Clean Air System, which filters out much of the air that comes into the truck. This should be very helpful for anyone who uses their Ram as a work truck. Additionally, Ram added some more special editions to the lineup. In particular, the TRX Ignition Edition and the RED Edition are new special editions for the 2022 model year.
