Poor feline gets thrown from a car and into a new life– as a police cat?
It’s not uncommon to see a happy dog hanging its head out a partially open car window as it zooms down the road. Unfortunately, some dogs will burst through an open window while a car is in motion. Much more tragically, however, some pet owners will simply abandon a feline or canine companion. That was the case with one cat in Palm Beach, but the chief of police had something else in mind.
The chief of police in the Palm Beach Police Department decided to adopt his favorite little rescue cat after someone threw it onto a bridge
According to the Palm Beach Daily News, a careless motorist tossed a small kitten out of their vehicle while crossing the Southern Boulevard Bridge in Palm Beach, Florida. A security camera on the bridge captured what looked like a Hyundai SUV discarding the critter on the bridge.
Tragically, the tiny spotted cat was nearly struck by several passing cars. At one point, a Honda Pilot passes over the diminutive feline, but the ride height was much too tall to injure it.
Fortunately, Palm Beach police officers rescued the wee cat from danger to safety. Better yet, the cat doesn’t appear to have suffered any harm while sitting on the bridge. But it gets better. Rather than nursing the little cat back to health and taking it to a shelter or hanging signs, the police officers had other plans.
Specifically, former New York Police Department (NYPD) officer turned Palm Beach Chief of Police Nicholas P. Carisito adopted the little cat on the spot. However, even with one of the latest police cats to join the law enforcement community in Palm Beach, we don’t expect to see Bridgete on any traffic stops anytime soon.
Still, the Palm Beach Daily News reports that Bridgete, now an adult feline over six years later, is “happy and healthy.” However, not every tragically discarded animal is so lucky. If you witness animal cruelty, please don’t hesitate to call the authorities.
