It’s not often you’ll see a full-blown Ferrari race car on a public roadway. If you do, it’s likely because of some sort of racing event. However, that wasn’t the case in this instance. Instead, this Ferrari took to the streets with no regard for speed limits early in the morning in Suffolk, England. As a result, the Ferrari hit a parked Range Rover and rolled it.

Residents described the crash as being so loud they thought it was an explosion

According to Autoevolution, the Ferrari in question was driving flat-out through a neighborhood when the driver evidently lost control. The car struck a parked Range Rover SUV and subsequently caused it to roll over. From the aftermath photos, it looks as if the Ferrari is likely totaled. Once again, money to buy the car does not imply you’ve got the skill to drive it. It’s nice to think that someday these types of people will learn, but chances are pretty slim.

After the impact, residents say the Ferrari backed up and started up again as if the driver was going to make a break for it. However, the damage to the car was obviously too severe to cruise off. Interestingly, the image of the Ferrari seems to show the back wheel missing a tire. If that’s the case, it does make you wonder if the vehicle lost the tire prior to the accident and caused the driver to lose control. After all, a front-end accident isn’t typically a situation you’d see a rear tire come loose, especially from the wheel itself.

However, the circumstances leading to the crash don’t excuse this reckless driving. There’s a time and place for everything. While the obvious answer for racing a Ferrari race car would be, you know, a race track, there’s plenty that will argue a more suitable time and place for illegal activity. It’s pretty safe to bet, though, that nobody in their right mind would argue that neighborhood streets are that ideal time and place. It’s also safe to assume the police feel that way, too.

The car involved was a Ferrari F355 Challenge

Now, when the title says “Ferrari race car,” that’s no stretch of the truth. The F355 challenge was a track-ready Ferrari of the late 90s.

According to Ferrari, for homologation reasons, the engine in the F355 Challenge is virtually identical to the engine in the road-going Ferrari 355 Berlinetta. However, the Challenge does not have everyday commodities like air conditioning or a radio. It’s an actual racecar. So, instead, you’ll find a six-point racing harness, a fire extinguisher, tow hooks, and an electric circuit breaker for emergency shutoff situations.

They have a 380 horsepower V8 that the Italian auto giant mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The car competed in the Ferrari Challenge racing series throughout Europe, Japan, and North America until the year 2000. Then, it was replaced by the Ferrari 360 Challenge.

Ultimately, it’s always sad to see a cool collectible supercar go down. Most car enthusiasts root for the guys that actually drive their expensive supercars, but sometimes it ends in a story like this. At least it had a fun life. Who knows? Maybe it will get rebuilt.
