If you spent over half a million dollars for your dream Ferrari and then got a notice to stop driving it over a fire risk, we think you won’t be so happy. But that is what is facing a gang of Ferrari SF90 models with the recall announcement today. Both the 2022 to 2024 SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 Spider versions are part of this recall. 

This recall encompasses over 600 SF90 Stradale supercars. The cause for the recall and “do not drive” warning is that the oil delivery lines for the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 were not made properly. This can cause an oil leak, which can turn into a fire. The turbocharging setup is the SF90 Stradale. 

What is the fix for the Ferrari SF90 Stradale recall?

Ferrari will replace the oil delivery tubes free of charge. Notices will be sent out by December 15. Merry Christmas, all you SF90 Ferrari owners. Not! In all, Ferrari is only making 799 SF90 XX Stradale coupes and 599 Spider versions. All of them have already sold. 

While you may think this Ferrari recall is a rare and isolated case, you would be wrong. This is the second recall for the SF90 this year alone. A total of 13 2021 to 2023 SF90s got recall notices in March. This was for airbags impacting child seats when deployed and involved only a certain seat option. 

Does Ferrari have many recalls?

Since 2020, there have been eight recalls of various Ferrari models encompassing a myriad of issues. The biggest was last year. Almost the entire production run of Ferraris, going back to 2005 in some cases, was recalled over brake issues. Drivers began experiencing a complete loss of braking. 

Brake caps with vents were not venting, causing a vacuum in the brake reservoir. This, in turn, resulted in a partial or complete lack of brakes. The list of models in this recall was quite long. It took in 488 Pista, 612 Scaglietti, 612, 812, F8 Spider, F8 Tributo, Roma, California and California T, F12 Berlinetta, F12 TDF, FF, GTC4 Lusso, GT4C Lusso T, LaFerrari Aperta, and Portofino models. Ferrari dealers would replace the reservoir caps and also update the software to include a warning system for low brake fluid. 

What owners should do for more information?

Other recalls were for replacing rear window adhesive on 812 Superfast models, airbag issues on 458 Italia models, another brake recall involving several Ferrari models from 2010 to 2016, and a fuel tank connecting pipe corroding, which could create a fuel leak.
