Mention Ferrari or Lamborghini, and many people think of posters of exotic cars that once hung in their rooms. That is because exotic cars are always fascinating for their beautiful lines, or their quirkiness. One of the most iconic exotic cars of the 1980s is the Ferrari Testarossa. That Ferrari model’s design was, and is still, adored by auto enthusiasts worldwide. Interestingly, an abandoned one has been found and is for sale. 

The Ferrari Testarossa

The Ferrari Testarossa was produced from 1984 to 1991. It was later renamed the Ferrari 512 TR and ran through until retirement in 1996. Nearly 10,000 copies were made. During its lifespan, it became a pop culture sensation even showing up as a supporting character roll in the Miami Vice detective television series.

The Testarossa was a mid-engine naturally aspirated 12-cylinder sportscar. It pumped out 385 horsepower through its 4.9-liter engine. A five-speed manual was mated to the transmission. The car could scoot from zero-to-sixty in 5 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in 12.7 seconds. The top speed was rated at 180 miles per hour. In short, the Ferrari Testarossa was the supercar of its day. 

The abandoned Ferrari Testarossa

There is a Youtuber who runs the channel, Ratarossa. We will call him Scott. Anyway, Scott has built a following finding Ferrari’s and deciding what to do with them. The popularity of his channel has grown to the point that Scott has people worldwide sending him tips of different Ferraris they have found abandoned. 

In the most recent video, Scott says a viewer found an abandoned Ferrari Testarossa and sent him a tip. So, he investigated. The car is in Puerto Rico. Amazingly enough, Scott was able to contact the owner. Then he had somebody do a video walk-around of the car to determine its condition. The video is below. 

Overall condition of the abandoned exotic car

To make a long story short, the Ferrari Testarossa has seen better days. It has been sitting for 17 years in the tropic sun. Although all the exterior body panels are there, the engine and the interior are huge concerns. The engine did prove it is not seized, but all the parts are there and will need a full-out service. Additionally, the interior has been baking and cracking terribly. So, most, if not all, of the interior will need to be redone.

Overall, the car needs an overhaul. The body, suspension, and engine all need to be looked at very closely. Judging by the walk-around video, it could take many months of work and tens of thousands of dollars to restore the vehicle to a running, shiny, dream that it once was. Plus, the Youtuber is in England. So, there would be significant shipping and customs fees to deal with. So, Scott has bowed out of doing anything with the owner. But, he says if anybody is interested in it, they should contact the owner and let him know. 

The Ferrari is in the USA

Puerto Rico is a part of the United States. If one were to pick up the Ferrari and bring it to the mainland USA, the shipping and customs concerns would not be anywhere near that of taking it to England. But it will still be pricey. Having said that, it’s a Ferrari. Ferrari values have been astronomical of late. So, if someone with the wherewithal is speculating on long-term value, this may be worth it. As always, due diligence is necessary.
