Ford Finally Released Relevant Specs for the 2021 F-150
The Ford F-150 is as American as apple pie. The F Series from Ford is one of the most-sold vehicles in history at a staggering 40 million (give or take) units. In 2019 alone, Ford sold nearly a million of these hay haulers. It seems fair to say that people like their Ford trucks and the 2021 Ford F-150 should follow suite nicely.
Ford’s latest announcements about the new F-150 is finally getting down to the brass tax truck info. What kind of interior options a truck comes with is nice and all, but what we need to know its towing capacity, power, engine options, and maximum payload. *read in Sam Elliot’s voice*
The 2021 Ford F-150’s engine options
It makes the most sense to start here. All of the other specs will be dependant on which motor you have. So let’s lay all the options Ford is offering. The 2021 Ford F-150 will have six power options to meet a wide and diverse range of needs. According to MotorTrend, in ascending order, there will be (deep breath) a twin-turbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 (325 hp, 400 lb-ft), a turbo-diesel 3.0-liter V6 (250 hp, 440 lb-ft), a 3.3-liter V6 (290 hp, 265 lb-ft), a twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 (400 hp, 500 lb-ft), a gasoline-electric hybrid based around the aforementioned 3.5-liter six (dubbed PowerBoost) (430 hp, 570 lb-ft) , and finally a traditional 5.0-liter V8 (400 hp, 410 lb-ft).
There are a couple of previously offered motors that, for the 2021 models, have been jazzed up a bit. The V8 found an extra 5 hp as well as 10 lb-ft of torque. Included in the power boost club is the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 option finding an additional 25 hp and 30 lb-ft of torque. Although the power boost hybrid V6 isn’t going to make quite the horsepower as expected, its 570 lb-ft of torque is nothing short of serious.
The 2021 Ford F-150’s payload capacity
OK. Cue the Sam Elliot voice again. Ford has claimed trucking points of pride with the new F-150; Best-in-class payload and towing. Ford says that the 2021 Ford F-150 has a maximum payload capacity of 3,325 pounds. To achieve this weight, you must have the two-wheel-drive version, an eight-foot bed, and, of course, the V8.
The payload capacity depends enormously on the power plant, of course. The lightest load capacity belongs to the 3.0-liter Power Stroke V6 turbo-diesel engine at 1,840 lbs, followed by the 3.3-liter V6 clocking in at 1,985 lbs. The 3.5-liter PowerBoost V6 hybrid engine gives you 2,120 lbs but firmly in the middle sits the little 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 at 2,480 lbs.
Lastly, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost and 5.0-liter V8 top the chart with 3,250 lbs in the V6 and 3,325 lbs for the V8.
2021 Ford F-150 towing capacity
(Continuing in our cowboy voice) The 2021 Ford F-150 claims top marks in its class in towing. The highest figures come in at a solid 14,000 lbs. Surprisingly the V8 is not responsible for the best-in-class towing; that honor goes the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6.
That towing capacity requires the SuperCab (extended cab) 2021 F-150 with two-wheel drive and the Max Trailer Tow Package. The rest of the line varies from 8,200 lbs towing capacity all the way up to the 14,000-lb mark. The 3.0-liter Power Stroke V6 turbo-diesel holds down the healthy middle spot at 12,100 lbs.
Ford slated the 2021 F-150 to be available for sale this fall, which means it could be any day now. Keep your eyes peeled for the next iteration of one of the most popular vehicles ever made.
