Finally, the Next-Gen 2025 Toyota 4Runner Is Almost Here
Toyota has slowly been updating its lineup of trucks and SUVs. We’ve seen the new Toyota Tundra, Tacoma, Sequoia, and Grand Highlander. But the Toyota 4Runner got hit with delays. After months of waiting, the 2025 Toyota 4Runner is finally taking shape.
Will the 2025 Toyota 4Runner be redesigned?
Yes, the 2025 Toyota 4Runner will be completely redesigned. Currently, the 4Runner is in its fifth generation which debuted back in 2010. So, it’s only taking the sixth generation about 15 years to arrive.
The new 4Runner was originally slated to come out in 2023 but was pushed back due to rising inflation and supply chain constraints.
Plus, Toyota was busy showing off the new Tacoma and the 4Runner sold 121,023 models in 2023. It beat the Ford Bronco, which sold 117.057 models.
But it’s time to look to the future as rumors suggest that the new 4Runner could emerge in the late spring or early summer. It will arrive similarly to the new Tacoma in 2023.
The 4Runner could also use the same engines as the Tacoma. The standard turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine cranks out 228 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque.
On higher trim levels with the available six-speed manual transmission, this engine cranks out 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. With the eight-speed automatic transmission, it provides 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque.
The i-FORCE max pairs the same engine with an electric motor and a battery pack to generate 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque.
So, we can expect the new 4Runner to have more power and a hybrid option. Also, it could offer a manual transmission like the Jeep Wrangler, and Bronco.
Because the 4Runner has a third row instead of a truck bed, it could weigh more. As a result, it could have different power figures. Either way, it currently has a standard 4.0-liter V6 engine with 270 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque.
Also, the current 4Runner can tow up to 5,000 lbs. It’s unclear if it will gain towing power, but this figure is solid for the class. The Bronco can tow up to 4,500 lbs and the Wrangler can tow 5,000 lbs.
Aside from potential off-roading upgrades and new trims, like the Trailhunter, the 4Runner is expected to have a totally revamped interior.
It could feature more modern and upscale materials to replace plastics. It’s safe to expect tons of new tech as well. Stay tuned for updates because 4Runner teasers could start rolling out soon.
