It’s time to check on your Ford Bronco Sport. It might need to go to the dealership for maintenance. A ton of 2021 – 2022 Ford Bronco Sport models may catch fire, creating another irritating recall. 

Ford Bronco Sport recall alert due to fire risks 

About 345,451 Ford Bronco Sport models and Ford Escape SUVs are being recalled due to a possible oil leak. According to Auto Blog, the engine oil separator housing installed on these SUVs may crack and develop an oil leak. 

If this occurs, the leaking oil may spread to other parts of the engine, increasing the risk of an engine fire. An oil leak near an ignition source like a hot engine or exhaust components can go up in flames. However, don’t panic. Ford isn’t currently aware of any injuries related to this problem. 

The recall includes 2020 – 2022 Ford Escapes and 2021 – 2022 Ford Bronco Sports that are equipped with the 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine. There have been 15 reports of oil leaks and fires reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA). 

What to do if your Bronco Sport is at risk 

You may find that your Ford Bronco Sport or Ford Escape is at risk if you smell burning oil or see smoke rising from beneath the hood. Your vehicle could also be leaking oil if you see oil leaking under the engine. 

Ford plans to begin notifying owners at risk by April 18 via mail. But you don’t have to wait that long. You can visit the NHTSA site here and enter your 17 digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for instant results. 

If your vehicle falls under the recall, you will need to take it in for service. You can go to a local Ford dealership. You don’t have to return to the same place where you purchased your SUV. 

We recommend calling ahead or scheduling an appointment online to avoid long waiting times. Ford technicians will inspect your oil separator damage and replace it if needed for free. We’re currently unaware of how long the process will take. 

What are the other Bronco Sport recalls? 

The Ford Bronco Sport has had seven recalls so far. That feels a little high for a brand new vehicle. Also, the Bronco Sport shares a lot of parts with the Ford Escape, so what’s with all of the new issues? 

Anyways, there was a recent recall due to braking problems. Drivers may need to apply more brake pedal force with more distance required to stop than average. This is because the rear brake linings may have been manufactured incorrectly. 

There was another recall due to the possibility of the moonroof becoming detached. The glass may not have been correctly bonded to the frame. As a result, the glass panel could separate from the vehicle. 

Plus, the fuel delivery module may leak inside the gas tank, causing low fuel pressure that might result in an engine stall. Also, the rear-drive unit may seize due to an inadequate amount of lubricant in the rear-drive unit, which increases the risk of losing control of the vehicle. 

Also, there were two suspension recalls. Some Ford Bronco models might have been produced with the incorrect lower control arms, which might impact vehicle control. Plus, some models may have loose or missing bolts, reducing handling and control.
