Unless you’ve got a whole lot of money, a plane ticket, and an invitation, you can’t buy the hottest new Chevrolet sports car. See, the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, rather, the first one ever made, will be auctioned off to benefit charity. It’s not even the first time someone’s done this, but we’re ecstatic to see it being done again.

The first Corvette Z06 gets sold off for Operation Homefront

The charity in question is Operation Homefront. It is what it sounds like; a charity for veterans. The nonprofit offers a plethora of programs to assist veterans when they get back home. Operation Homefront provides financial assistance in a number of categories, including transitional housing for wounded service members, as well as food and utility assistance for those with homes.

Moreover, the charity also donates school supplies and backpacks to the family members of servicemen and women. Though the period is undefined on Operation Homefront’s website, they claim they’ve given more than $30 million to their cause. So, at least we know the surely absurd price that’ll be paid for the first Corvette Z06 is going to a good place.

Now, about that auction. It’s set to take place at Barett-Jackson later this month. Frankly, we expect it to command a stunning price more befitting of a high-end exotic like a Ferrari, and not that of a Corvette. After all, this is the first mid-engined Corvette. More to the point, this is the first-ever flat-plane V8 mid-engine Corvette Z06 ever.

While the winner of the auction likely won’t be getting a deal on theirs, the winner will certainly be getting one of the best sports cars out there. Thanks to a reworked Chevrolet V8, complete with titanium connecting rods and other motorsports tech, the LT6 motor pumps out 670 naturally-aspirated horsepower. Of course, there’s also the Z07 pack that comes with goodies like a revised aero package and carbon fiber wheels.

Chevy is fond of auctioning off cars for charities like Operation Homefront

This isn’t even the first time Chevrolet has done this. A Camaro Z/28 was auctioned for charity back in 2014, and the first C8 Corvette was also sold off for charity. Clearly, the brand has found a way to give back that works for them. Chevrolet gets some good press, and they’ll make their money when production gets up to speed. Plus, it’s all for a good cause. We hope the Bowtie Brand continues to find ways to do good with its cars.
