First Drive: The 2022 Hyundai Tucson Is Seriously Value Packed
We’re a little excited because the new Hyundai Tucson is one of our favorite things, affordable. It comes with tons of value for daily drivers and families to enjoy. Seriously, you need to check out what the 2022 Hyundai Tucson offers.
What comes standard with the 2022 Hyundai Tucson?
You can get started with the 2022 Hyundai Tucson for about $24,950. The Tucson SE, or the entry-level model, begins with an 8.8-inch touchscreen, 17-inch wheels, LED headlights, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
We tested the Tucson XRT trim, which is a mid-level option for about $30,000. It adds roof rails, tinted rear windows, keyless entry, heated seats, heated mirrors, rear passenger vents, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.
You also get a wireless phone charging pad, hands-free liftgate, a 10.3-inch touchscreen, 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
Plus, the Tucson XRT enhances its overall look with 19-inch black-painted wheels, unique bumpers to improve off-roading angles, rock rails, roof rails, and a tow hitch. It features AWD lock, hill-descent control, and an off-roading Snow mode.
So for roughly $5,050 more, your ride gets tricked out with a more aggressive style and more features for comfort and convenience.
The Tucson doesn’t feel cheap
At the $30,000 mark, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson has an excellent interior. The layout is convenient, and everything you need is within reach. The seats in the front and rear are well-padded and spacious.
You will find hard plastics, but the materials are textured for a high-quality feeling. There are contracting colors and accent stitching. Plus, there are soft carpets that create literal soft-touch surfaces.
Contrasting colors and pops of silver draw the eye, and the steering wheel has a modern design. You can easily customize the ambient interior lighting too. Overall, the interior is upscale and with a high-quality build.
Plus, it’s spacious. You can access 38.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat and up to 80.3 cubes with the seats folded flat.
The Tucson isn’t slow
The gas-powered 2022 Hyundai Tucson has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that cranks out 187 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 8.8 seconds. This is plenty of power for passing others on the highway.
You can use Sport Mode to make the ride more engaging. The throttle responses are faster, and the engine is louder with a delightful roar. The Tucson’s responsive handling and agile performance make it fun to drive.
Plus, the Hyundai Tucson provides a surprisingly smooth ride over the pavement with very little wind and road noise. It can be quite peaceful, especially in a quiet mode which limits engine noise and the radio volume.
In tight city areas or on the trails, the Tucson is nimble and easy to maneuver around obstacles. It’s one of the easiest SUVs to park that we’ve driven in a while.
The Tucson is oozing with value. It has an affordable price, high-quality interior, advanced tech, off-roading chops, a comfortable ride, and engaging performance.
