While we’re waiting for the all-new Fisker Ocean SUV to arrive at the end of this year, the new startup electric automaker opened reservations for its second EV. The PEAR (Personal Electric Automotive Revolution) is tentatively set to arrive in 2024. The exciting part of this news is that the PEAR will start at $29,900, and that’s before any incentives or taxes.

A starting price like that would make the forthcoming PEAR one of the most affordable EVs available in the U.S. if it were sold today. It would still be quite a bargain as a $30,000 EV in 2024. With $7,500 in U.S. federal EV tax credits possible, it could be available for many at just $22,400.

The history of Fisker

Fisker Inc. got its start as Fisker Automotive in 2007. The American EV automaker manufactured and sold luxury plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles. Not long after the company launched, Fisker produced the Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid sports car. Unfortunately, the automaker struggled with battery problems, a legal battle with Tesla, and Hurricane Sandy. The company went bankrupt and closed its doors in 2014.

The rights to the Fisker Karma were sold to Wanxiang, who took those assets and launched a new company called Karma Automotive. This led to the Karma Revero plug-in hybrid car based on the Fisker Karma.

Company founder Henrik Fisker retained the Fisker logo and trademarks. Fisker Inc. launched in 2016, and since it had no rights to its previous work, it developed new electric concepts and models. The Fisker Orbit was one of those, as an autonomous EV shuttle popular in airports, cities, and campuses.

Another is the upcoming Fisker Ocean, an EV luxury compact SUV that will debut later this year. The company is also developing the Emotion luxury sports car and Alaska pickup truck.

The upcoming PEAR EV

As an agile urban EV, the Fisker PEAR is all about the latest innovative technology and sustainability, according to InsideEVs. The automaker explains that the compact EV offers an athletic driving experience. It’s digitally connected with strategic storage solutions and intuitive cabin controls.

With the U.S. push toward EVs, the PEAR has the potential to be wildly popular. With such an appealing price tag, it could go a long way in dispelling the notion of EVs as too pricey for the average American. To this point, many EVs have been priced beyond the household budget of many American families.

Fisker outsourced production of the Ocean to Magna-Steyr. However, with the PEAR, Fisker is partnering with Foxconn for its production. The PEAR will be manufactured in Ohio with the goal of 250,000 units produced annually.

Is Fisker serious competition for Tesla?

Most automakers have joined the U.S. government in promoting EVs to help reduce the dangerous effects of climate change. However, consumers are more interested in these new EVs because of their bold new designs and thrilling performance. By all accounts, the Fisker PEAR will not only have that thrilling acceleration and performance but will also be practical, roomy, and loaded with great tech at an unbeatable price.

Prompted by growing demand, the automaker has opened up reservations for the new PEAR. For a refundable reservation of $250, consumers can save their place in line for one of these exciting new affordable EVs. If you want to reserve two PEARS, the second reservation will only set you back $100.

Fisker explains that the new PEAR will offer the latest technology in an affordable, beautifully designed “urban mobility device.” He says it’s an exciting vehicle at an exciting time for the company that’s expanding its lineup.
