Florida driver navigating flooded roads startled by a large alligator snapping at his tire
Last week, sanitation workers drove on a flooded road in North Fort Myers, Florida, in the wake of Hurricane Milton. One of them happened to be filming their dark departure, which occurred while the sun was out. What he caught on camera, though, spiked their blood pressures…and served as a sober reminder to Floridians to stay out of floodwaters. Otherwise, you risk getting sudden face time with an alligator.
“It was no little gator, either.”
The footage is shaky, but it shows what looks like the passenger opening his door to get a better look down below. Viewers can see an alligator with its mouth gaping open. Then, it snaps its jaws over and over, aiming for the right front tire.
It looks like the passenger scrambles to get back in the vehicle, hollering about what he realizes is in the water.
“That was a big [curse] alligator just bit our tire!” he exclaims.
No one was injured and the folks ultimately drove on without any reported issues.
The clip, though, is a reminder to people existing in gator territory to be aware of the possibility of their dangerous presence in floodwaters, or any body of water, for that matter.
TikToker Florida Lyfe might show it best:
In Florida, if there’s water, there’s probably an alligator around.
