Florida man is at it again, this time taking a flamethrower to get a car to move. While neighborly disputes are pretty common worldwide, breaking out a flamethrower to frighten a car full of teens is not quite as common.

Florida man gets a flamethrower, uses it on his teenage neighbors

According to Click Orlando, this altercation occurred earlier this week in Gainesville, Florida. The Florida Man was angry over his neighbor’s parking habits and decided to take things into his own hands. Andre Abrams pulled out a commercial flamethrower and aimed it at his neighbor’s car while three teenagers were inside the vehicle.

Abrams was arrested and faces three counts of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intending to kill. He posted a $15,000 bail after being arrested and is waiting for a decision on formal criminal charges. One of the teen’s mothers, Ashley Gainey, said this Florida Man was known for using a flamethrower to get rid of guests. Gainey’s daughter, Nate’talya Baker, was in the car with her friends when Abrams used the flamethrower to scare the group off.

“When he shoots it, it lights the whole road up. It’s like it’s daylight outside. He’ll do it in the middle of the night,” Gainey said.

Abrams used a XM42 Lite Flamethrower, but the company assumes no responsbility

The XM42 Lite Flamethrower is the most popular flamethrower from X Products LLC of Vancouver, Washington. The arrest report identified this as the weapon this Florida Man used to protest parking problems. The XM42 Lite Flamethrower can shoot flames up to 20 feet and costs around $900. X Products makes buyers accept a liability waiver before purchasing, which Abrams probably had to do. The waiver asserts that the buyer knows the flamethrower can result in “in injury or even death.”

“I confirm that I am physically and mentally capable of handling, operating, and/or using the XM42-Lite, XM42-Modular, X15, or XL18. I also confirm that I have not been convicted of a felony, domestic violence or arson related crime.”

X Products LLC Liability Waiver

Such a flamethrower is legal in 48 states but not in Maryland or California. The local government has convicted Abrams of misdemeanor domestic battery in 2002 and 2004, but X Products assumes no responsibility for such issues.

Click Orlando says no federal laws regulate the sale of flamethrowers as such items are not technically firearms. Abrams says that this wasn’t a one-time incident but more of a long-running dispute with his neighbors. Police noted that Abrams admitted to shooting the flamethrower at the teens’ vehicle but said he was not targeting the teens specifically.

“This family, how could I say this — the worst thing that could ever happen to a neighborhood. They’ve had issues with other residents, and it needs to be brought to light,” Abrams said. Amari Singleton, the driver of the vehicle, says the occupants watched Abrams approach the car and aim the flamethrower in their direction.

Right now, the situation remains fluid until prosecutors formally file criminal charges. It definitely seems this Florida Man is in the wrong (as usual), but the court has not made any further moves.
