As an exercise, this is pretty cool. But as a thing or product, well, you decide. 1016 Industries, a tuner shop from Miami, Florida, has produced a variety of carbon fiber body kits and aftermarket products. But this is a first according to 1016. The Roll-Royce “Limited Edition Custom” Cullinan has body panels that are 3D carbon fiber.

We should say it is printed carbon fiber, which presents a whole host of complexity over fiberglass-laid parts. And they come out of the printer with OEM panel fit as well. “1016 Industries engineers vehicles with an OEM-plus attitude, which means every piece of forged carbon in our new Cullinan is seamlessly integrated into the existing bodywork,” CEO Peter Northrop told Top Gear UK. “Our company is dedicated to resetting the boundaries of auto engineering and our carbon fiber work highlights the latest innovations in 3D printing processes.”

The company has released plenty of body kits for exotics like the McLaren 570 GT, Lamborghini Urus, and Ferrari F12, but nothing like this. To wit, Northrop goes on to say that the kit “utilizes several advanced manufacturing techniques that have never been successfully adopted in the industry before on this scale.”

Bring your Cullinan and here’s what you get for your $500,000

So you bring your Roller Cullinan to 1016, pay your $500,000, then what? You get an array of new carbon fiber body panels, and some tasteful modifications. It starts with a new front bumper with custom running lights, new fenders, a custom rear bumper with a subtle diffuser tucked under, and a spoiler it will bonk onto the trunk lid. An added advantage is that besides the bragging rights, all of these goodies lowers the Cullinan’s curb weight. How much is not advertised. 

Based on the images, 1016 will also lower it. And there is a new wheel design not available on a factory Cullinan. But it is unclear if these are part of that half-a-million price tag, or available at extra cost. And with their modified ECUs available for other makes, it is fair to say 1016 will find some extra ponies for you as well. But at prevailing rates, of course. As a reminder, a stock Rolls-Royce Cullinan comes with a twin-turbo 6.75-liter V12 with 563 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque.  

And just to make sure your well-earned money goes for something unique, 1016 is limiting the production of these custom Cullinans. That number is also not available. Many times a limited edition is based on how many a manufacturer can sell.

For the upper one percent the price is an accounting error

Which brings us back to the question of if this is a real product, or an exercise to further 1016’s knowledge of 3D carbon printed panels? Oh, and a bit of publicity too. It’s not for us to decide, or even suggest. The upper one percent have ridiculous amounts of money at their ready. 

Even spending two million for a unique Rolls-Royce is probably just an accounting error for them. And you’ve got to spend it somewhere.
